I generally put Airports outside the town/city, in an area flat enough to support the larger modern Airports, then build one or more bus lines going through the green/blue/yellow areas.

The cities will grow towards the airport.

This has worked for me. Just make sure the frequency on the bus lines are low, 60 seconds or less.

In a couple of years you may still be losing money on the bus line, but your Airplanes will be fully loaded.

Another idea is to find two or more cities close to each other and build an airport between them. Then build a railway line between them and place a station at the airport. People from the whole area can use the airport.

Anywhere except in a city :p It is utterly pointless to have an airport serve a single city unless you have one of those rapid-growing sprawling cities mods running.
I use airports as long-range transport hubs. I build them in an empty space, centralized between 3 or 4 cities and then build a rail station next to it to link it to those cities. I then have it fly planes to another airport similarly placed on the other side of the map.

I tried that once, put the airport between 2 cities that were served by rail, made dedicated bus lines in each city going through the high value residential and commercial areas then pass the manufacturing area on their way out of town and headed directly to the airport.

The frequency of the bus lines were less then 60 seconds.

Aircraft were making money but the aircraft were not full, but the buses were! The peeps were getting on a bus from city A, going to the airport, then getting on the bus to city B, they should have bought train tickets.

Fix was easy, all the passengers waiting at the airport were from city B so I canceled the bus line to city A, I forced those cheap peeps to take the train ;-)

Build it away from your city, connect it by building a passenger stop with a tram or bus line to the city. Make sure the passenger stop is very close to your airport as otherwise it won't fall inside the 'catchment' radius.

Exactly how far out from your city should you build an airport?

Hi, there.

Have you ever been living by an Airport by yourself (in Real-Life).

So the answer is?

The more question is ... how the algorhytmics work. I must admit and confess that am not that far ... primaraly am working ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ well from 1850 (and now 1899 (writing this)) in hardmode now; all about the mechanics - took me 33hrs to dunk and immerse ... but I would suggest to put the airpots as distanced as it can be, and primarably they do connect zones with "potencial"; and hardly this will be an impact of bad choice!

P.S
Imagine this game would have hitboxes; and your city does [..]

=f=

Is there a population level from where airports will become more crowded? I've put six airports on cities with 750-1300 pop but I can't seem to get citizens interested in flying.

Skyestorme shows how he applies airports in this episode. Interesting to watch ;)
