Automatic Route Creation... where are the smarts?
The automatic route generation is fairly smart, but not smart enough to follow pre-determined BUS LANES that I have been pre-assigned. Why would the route choose a small, insignificant road that has NO bus lanes and has not been upgraded to a more complex road.

The game should choose the more complex road that has been assigned more complex uses. I know that I can force the route to go the way I want by placing Bus stops in certain areas, but this does me no good when I have many cities to manage and don't want to/can't micromanage every single line and plus the game always comes along and adds roads on it's own and changes the route automatically, without choosing the best road for the vehicle, i.e. BUSLANES.

If the game had a little more smarts, it would choose the routes that are upgraded to best accomodate the vehicle.

If the smarts can't be addeed, then at least let me control the routes similar to the way City Skylines allows me to control routes.

It's taken me nearly 170 hours of game play for this to become a slight annoyance.

Anyone feel the same?

I have over 1000+ hours of gameplay and no, it doesn't bother me at all :)
After I have assigned all the stops I can see what route the line will take, then I upgrade the roads where needed.

It just seems logical for me, that the upgraded roads would be set higher priority.

And I've only been playing the game for two months, as well as all the hundreds of hours I spread between Space Engineers and City Skylines (amoungst others)... so I am no newb.

And I'm a foward thinker, a planner, and I set my major routes far in advance of city development, driving the growth in MY direction.

And I apolgize if my post sounded rude, it's just that I've also been also posting on youtube arguing with the Idiots and my slightly agrivated state of mind might have transfered over to these forums. My apologizes. Thank you for your comments and your POV.

sounds like you should be using trams instead of buses

Yep, I'm also using mainly trams because of this, and also they are mostly faster. :)

Yeah, I'm in agreeance and have recently started using trams more. But you guys are right, I can completely control the path by using trams. Appreciate the comments... but still, why create designated bus lanes if the buses won't automatically choose the bus lanes over less significant roads... but anyways, I digress.

It's not so much a question about smart routes but about missing waypoints, which have been requested quite a lot and I'd think there is a good chance we'll see them added.

It's just something you have to learn to deal with. It's not a smart route-finder, it is as basic as they get. It'll just take the shortest route possible from one stop to the next and doesn't take any regard of speed limits or bus lanes. So you'll either have to do as Gwinda explained or stick to using trams only like I do, since we can dictate the path trams take. Until a similar system or waypoints are introduced for busses I wont use them in convoluted inner-city routes

To me, the larger problem with buses/trams is the number of vehicles required to run them. That is to say, in mid to late years of the simulator, there isn't enough capacity to best handle bus/tram lines! This results in meaning bus/tram lines become more efficient with more lines and less stops, and in turn multiple lines can interrupt efficient lane usages like what you're describing..

I think we can all agree that we could do with Road Waypoints to make lines via roads be very much improved. But personally I think mostly you can work out which routes they will take and base placements on this. I just add another stop if I need a bus to go a certain way. No harm in picking up a few more passengers right :-)

It really annoys me and I hope they will finally add road waypoints one day.

Way Points would resolve the "issue" for sure. It would be heaven on earth if the developers could work out a deal with City Skylines to purchase their route generator, which allows you to move and add Stations (or stops) as you adjust the route itself... although you can't control the line itself, it is smart in that it takes the larger capacity roads over the less capacity ones. Seems to be very intuitive to me.

Anyway, just wanting to have my cake and eat that Mother love maker too.

Thanks for all the feed back, new to the forms... but kinda thinking about sticking around. I'll try not to stink up the place. Ha!.. (you know, since it's not a real place).

Yes, you can use extra bus stops to guide the busses the way you want them to go, but, unfortunately, you can't do that with lorries!.
