Cursed relics not worth it
By and large I have no idea what a large portion of the cursed relics do, because honestly I find that they generally are not worth the trouble. Double trouble being pretty much the only exception since on a high armor cloak/build the damage taken is managable while giving you double damage to dish out.

Maybe if we had descriptions on what we were buying BEFORE you bought like most games would give you so you could make intelligent decisions this wouldn't be true. But picking up a cursed object will generally be the end of a run shortly after since it screws your gameplay so much and you probably weren't built to take it's downside. However while some of the normal relics won't be useful to your current build, generally they won't do things like reduce your health or incrase your damage taken while making your rocket uncrontrollably as you dash or make you move like a snail.

If anything feels half baked in this game, it's the cursed relics, by far.

Yeah, that achievement is really hard to get at first, but I would say just grind some relics. There's some pretty strong stuff later on.

I just tested out Overpriced Insurance, to cross check the infromation I just gave out.

And it seems the wiki is wrong. It says the relic only heals you for 4% of your gold count. But I had ~211 gold on the last floor before picking it up and it healed me for 53. So it heals for 25% or one fourth of your lost gold count.

So still a very situational pick, but not the hot garbage I believed it was.

PS: The healing is also "probably" linked to your max health pool like most of the other healing in this game. These numbers are based off the fact that I was at 500 max health, which is the standard amount.

Yeah I at first died before the 2nd boss, then I died on the 3rd, but now I can pretty much always get to the final boss, but speed's the problem, because I never find the cursed relic merchant or the merchant before I've done like 70% of the map. I have the map relic, but I like to use the extra relic for more danage=faster clears.

My favorite cursed relic is only really due to a setup you can find at well.. Random, due to it being random what the game gives you. Its definitely the crimson clover with the jacket that makes you evade crits. Basically you just get a benefit without a loss if you're lucky.

Second favorite is definitely the volatile gemstone, but any of the ones that build into something are usually pretty good if you're lucky. I will agree to what people have said though, is a tooltip on items/spells so you can read what they do.

I wish that I got Crimson Clover more often, it rarely ever shows up for me, let alone on a run with Puffy Parka. I don't think I've ever had the two relics together.

As for Volatile Gemstone, I will almost always pick it up if I see it. I've found that hitting enemies with Tidal Blast builds up a lot of charge, making it a good Arcana to pair with VG.

Sort of depends on your set up as I am coming to find out.

Nogs Boots are amazing with an Evade focused build but I am not sure on their worth with anything else because of the double damage, for example.

Crimson Clover is pretty good regardless and is basically an instant pick for me if there isn't anything better.

Nogs Boots adds +45% chance of evasion for double damage, so unless you have a relic or you're wearing clothes that boost your evasion, its a worse decision. However, I imagine that when you do get the evasion chance and get your evasion to +95% then you win at life pretty much.
You can straight up get your evasion to 100%

It's dependant on you having the stars align perfectly, but yeah it is something that can actually happen.

I got my fastest run ( forget how much time exactly but it was definately under 10 minutes) completely due to cursed relics. First floor: double trouble, second floor: double bladed cestus, and then I just rushed through hordes of enemies spamming left click and occasionally right click (which I have as chaos delete, so the damage down from the cestus doesn't really matter) and buying health potions when needed.

Then you got Double Trouble, Volatile Gem, Double Edged Cestus and Sharpened Stylus as well.

All of them are insanely potent in their uses or at least crank what you already have up to 11.

yeah, I had one run where I had fuelled beserk, ice daggers, and dark katana and got double edged cestus. It was pretty broken

double trouble + evade heavy build is good too

Yes I can, vampire fangs only gives you 2 health per KILL at reduction of 30% health which isn't itself useful to pick up vs vampire glasses which heals the same amount per critical hit. The latter can ealily be made more viable on a crit run; but still helps even if you don't increase crit becaue you can get that health even during a boss fight. The former isn't even increased by messy prescription and can't help you during the last two bosses.

Large red button is mainly the same way. Yes you get all your health back per stage, but you can't get any health during the stage which basically is just making your life harder for no good reason. It's ONLY use I could see is for those doing a speed run, but even then you still have to get it randomly AND unless you have the map you won't know where the exit would be. On both counts making this very weak and largely not worth the time to take.

Crocidile heart can counter itself true, but only really if you get it by the third level or the level right after the first boss. Which on top of being random makes it only useful half the time, literally.

By and large all of these relics would get you killed in short order the first time you picked them up with no knowlege of what to expect. Which is fine for some, obviously, but without pre-item pickup selections this again makes cursed relics not worth it. You can play around a bad selction in the shop as that just costs you gold. But most of the cursed relics either reduce movement speed in a game about active dodging or primarily reduce health to some degree. Doubling damage taken is effectivly the latter.

Once again, having descriptions BEFORE you buy and/or pick up items would do nothing but improve the game. The fact that we don't have that gives the game a half-baked feeling.

FYI, I think there are plenty of people that agree with your wish to have descriptions pop up in the store, but still disagree with your opinion of cursed relics not being worth the effort.

Large red button is amazing nearly always, except IF
A) You can take a better cursed relic
B)You can't manage a floor without taking 200-300dmg (depends on cloaks) Which correlates to "If you suck, don't take it"
Vampire fangs are trash though, they should take 50% of your max hp and heal 8hp per kill.

Taking croc on the 3rd floor without knowing what it does, or any cursed relic is really stupid (fun for me tho :D)

Are you claiming that the first time you picked up cursed relics, with no prior knowledge of their effects, that their subsiquent effects had no part in you failing a run? Or are you claiming you have completed the trials every time you picked up a new cursed relic.
