How do I keep my spells?
I played, got some new spells, died in 1-2 to the boss, and when I went back to check the new spells out I didn't seem to see any new ones. Is there something special I need to do to keep newly acquired spells and items?

The only spells you keep are those you buy with crystals and those you obtain when beating the big bosses (earth, ice and fire; also I guess there's a final boss after that but I haven't reached him yet)

Oh! Do you mean buy with crystals in the little marketplace before you enter a level, or the small shops that are found in levels?

Wait, so you only acquire crystals if you beat one of the "big bosses"? That's kind of a disappointment. I just died at stage 2 and now the game is exactly the same way it was before. So if I spend my crystals on stuff, the only way to get more is to defeat one of those bosses, and if you don't then you don't keep anything you get on the way? I was kinda hoping for more...

No, you didn't read correctly. You acquire crystals all the time during your runs. However you only acquire arcanas that you keep when beating big bosses.
