Frozen Synapse 2

Frozen Synapse 2

Linux?
Like everyone else, i'm so happy to see the game released, and next week moreover!

But.. I actually always assumed, since it was the case with Frozen Synapse 1, that the game will be available for linux. And the store page doesn't mention that.

Can we have an update about this, please? Thanks!

I got it working thanks to @aurora_rising, but still no sound.

In the game-console (pressing ESC and scrolling upward), I noticed FMOD is disabled because the game could not find matching libraries, I guess this may be the cause of no sound.

So I tried fiddling with the FMOD-files, hence temporarly replacing the FMOD 4.42.04 files with the 4.44.50 files, but still keeping the names as they where.

With this I did see some changes in the output from the console.
There is no mismatch between FMOD libraries as it was before I believe, but I get several errors that FMOD is unable to initializing the sound system and sound-devices.

I have tried another version of FMOD (4.44.62), but with the same result.

Anyone successfully got sound in the yet not "released" Linux version?

Given that an enormous bug in the Skirmish generator still hasn't been corrected in Frozen Synapse 1 SINCE 2012, I will refrain from buying the promises of the 2.
This bug is important enough to have driven me away from the game, a game i LOVE.

If the developers don't care about such a bug for years, I won't trust them for a Linux version.

I have removed Frozen Synapse 2 from my wishlist.

Hmm sorry about that - we should have fixed that eariler. I've re-flagged it and hopefully we'll get it this time. Linux and Mac versions are still on the way and just going through some testing - I'll check on them today.

Obviously it's not a good idea to try to jury-rig the current stuff to work with Linux, but I know it's a fool's errand to get Linux users to stop doing things like that!

Thank you for the update on progress :)

Thank you for taking this bug into account !

That's not purely a Linux users trait. You just happen to notice it more on us because we always have to wait for everything longer than others.. ;-)

Nope, @Nevertheless is right indeed

He he, true that Nevertheless marks a real point! Don't take it personaly though, guys, we're used to that. And we prefer wait a bit more and have a working game.
Good luck!

It's because you haven't seen what we do with windows exclusives on our VMs. Gotta love some indetectable code injections. haha

Hi,

So, just to be clear as i am a little lost with updates : does the current version of the game run on Linux yet ? In a beta tab or else ? Or via Proton ? Or not yet and wait is the answer ?
Toast Oct 29, 2018 @ 11:43am
It basically runs. It still has no sound though and it's prone to crashing.

You have to select "multiplatform_test" from the betas, and i think the official stance is that the linux version is not stable enough yet to be relased as not-beta.
