That's actually what the devs wanted : the players buying the Event to get that finished quickly, and spreading the challenges and free content out over 8 weeks. While there might not be as much for players to get from completing the Event and Trials, completing both pays for itself, or you just get the free crystals and cosmetics from the Trials. This system is a lot closer to the daily login system that existed before they rolled that into the BP system.
Someone is ultimately going to complain about getting free stuff no matter what whether it takes too long to finish or they don't get enough.
You don't understand my point.
With the BP all of the playtime was front loaded in the first few weeks with a surge in the active player base for that period of time, and that tailed off as more and more players finished it back to normal. At the end of the BP there was a smaller surge as players played more trying to finish the BP.
With the EP and Trials, the time needed to finish the EP was reduced due to there only being 24 levels, but the playtime is staggered more over the 8 weeks because the challenges are only unlocked 10 at the most at any one time due to only having two tickets available to use at a time.
Essentially, they don't want a surge that tapers off sharply after 3 weeks, they want a more consistent set of active players throughout the 8 weeks.
