Playing with Controller?

First person shooters have been tried cross-platform in the past between Console and PC. It was tried with Halo 1. Before X-Box live was a thing you could connect your original Xbox to your PC and use GameSpy to play Halo online. PC players and Console players queued into the same lobbies. After a very short time it was determined that PC players had an obvious advantage with the mouse/keyboard vs controller.

Controllers have gotten better, games have added more control over how you set up your thumbsticks, but I haven't seen any FPS games that support PC to console cross platform in a long time. So I don't know how they stack up anymore except based on people I know who are top tier Overwatch and Battlefield 4 players getting their asses handed to them on PC while trying to use a controller.

That having been said, this is my personal opinion on using a controller for FPS on a PC. Having been a "professional gamer" back in the day before that was a real thing (Playing Quake 2 in large tournaments with my clan for cash prizes, but no recognition of it being a sport of any kind yet. Circa 1998.) and FPS being my game genre of choice. Having owned OG Xbox, PS2, Xbox 360, PS3, and PS4 (no Xbox One, not a chance)

You can't compare to the precision you get with a mouse or the ease of use of having all of your abilities/commands on keys. Without moving one of your thumbs off of a thumbstick you have 6 buttons available on a controller. Two top buttons, two triggers and two thumbsticks you can click.

There are 19 keys to use on the keyboard around the WASD classic movement scheme and two on a standard mouse. If you count the mouse wheel that's 5. If you have my mouse it's 8 and the Razer Naga has a full number pad on the side of it. None of which you have to sacrfice the ability to move or aim for a second to hit a button.

There are adapters you can get for Xbox One and PS4 to be able to use a mouse and keyboard in game.. the firmware on the adapter translates the keys and mouse movement to the PS4 to think it's a controller.

As far as Blizzard is concerned, use of those in Overwatch is considered straight up cheating. (I wonder why?)

Oh, and queueing into a match on any game where you have a team to cooperate with but only one guy has a mic and all you can hear is his ♥♥♥♥♥♥ music.. can't talk to anyone to coordinate anything.. on PC everyone has a keyboard. Voila!

TL;DL - Practice with a mouse and keyboard if you plan to game on PC.. I use controllers on PC from time to time too.. on platformers.

I'm playing with an xbox 360 controller, which was working fine before the update. Now the game is unplayable. Tried changing the keybindings back to how I had them, and there's not even an option to reset camera controls.

So i tried to play a match with the controller and it was surprising easier then i was expected. Usually in online shooter type games with controller support I am genuine bad at them. Had a friend over and he played a FPS with my controller and he was very good at it. Also nothing can compare the sensation of playing single player with multiplayer, the players move freely and is hard to aim at them in online but who doesn't love a challenge. :kungfusam:

Please don't on PC. It's frustrating enough playing with players that PLAY as if they are using controllers and/or a toaster PC running at < 10-20 FPS.

It does affect your game, your gameplay, and therefore your teammates match/gameplay/success. Consider that, especially when thinking of playing Ranked.
