DiRT 3
cannot get my controller to register with this game.
So I just bought a gamepad and win 7 recognizes it perfectly, calibrated and everything.....yet Dirt 3 does not recognize that I have a controller hooked up. It will only allow the keyboard. I see people are playing this with a pad so what the ****?

When you started the game did you push start on the controller or enter on the keyboard.

Also you may need to go to options and adjust it from keyboard to controller.

no i tried not to touch the keyboard whatsoever, but i have to in order for the game to advance anywhere once the start screen comes on. No button on my controller works at all. When I go into the options menu to adjust it from keyboard to controller, there is no option for the controller....so it's basically not recognizing that i have a controller plugged in. Windows 7 does though, and so did another game I just tried out today. I dunno why dirt won't recognize it but i'm not playing that game with a keyboard, omg it's annoying like that.

Not entirely sure but the game may only support xbox pc controllers officially hence it is a Windows LIve game. Having said that, I have gotten a PS3 controller to work perfectly using motionjoy drivers.

grrrrr, i didn't think about that...gut damn f'ing windows live. These motionjoy drivers, would they work with a generic gamepad?

If you're still lokking for a solution I've had good luck with x360ce. It's here http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/ Read about it it is dead simple and free. Hope it helps since I'm looking to get this game myself.

well motionjoy didn't work, at all. I'm about this close to breaking down and just buying an overpriced xbox controller. grrrrr

As Beltane mentioned above give X360CE a go. I use it for a PS2 controller/adapter. Works great in all of my games — including Dirt3.

It's really easy to setup (will take you about 5-10mins max) and once it's setup you can use it on all games that require or have native support for a 360 controller.

tried them all...maybe it's just my radioshack gigaware controller? It's a shame cause the thing seems to be pretty well made...works on other games that aren't GFW

Try this:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/21651954/xinput.rar

Extract the 2 files where the .exe of the game is. It should trick the game to think your controller it's a Xbox 360 one. It worked for someone for F1 2012 (a Codemasters game too).

Unplug any other devices (printer/mouse/keyboard/flash drives) and try it :)
