I allready wrote on the subject with rigorious testing.
For using old account with steam:

For migrating allready installed game clients:

We want full steam features. Besides Steam still uses my.com launcher, so why not both at once?
And any kind of "merge" is not possible as of yet.
A merged steam account with my.com account will also allow you to buy stuff with steam. These guides don't merge both accounts, so don't mislead people.
Sure, but only using steam download for updates? Last time i updated the game it was through my.com launcher. Steam didn't roll out any updates.
This bit here is misleading aswell.
So the guide is useless?
And yes, if you wan't use steam client, launch the game using steam, it works for me.
But can you login with your old my.com account if you use steam launch?
Uuuh. Okay. I don't think i have anything else to ask.
My conclusion is that the way everything is written is misleading, that is all.
Please rename your guide to "Make My.com Launcher detect and run Steam Client version".
As that is what it utterly does!
Anything else in there is misleading!!!
