Surprisingly doable achievements?
Hello :)

I’m wondering if anyone has any tips, advice, videos or even simple descriptions of any of the achievements that are a lot more doable than they might seem at first.

I’m far from a decent pinball player, but I enjoy working on the achievements and mastering the upgrades to get that fancy blue star on a table :)
And I’m curious if there are any achievements that can be done relatively easy compared to what the description might indicate.
(Like for instance the fact that for the achievement on Star Wars: Rebels you need only start each mission and can then let it time out in order to then start the wizard mode and get the achievement that way.)

I remember some people (MuddyWolf, Pinballwiz45b, T-wRecks?) were quite informative and helpful with these things on the FX2 forums. Anyone have any great insights? Like maybe the Bob’s Burgers achievement is easier than it sounds? Or what is a good way to get the achievement for the Fallout table? Etc.

I'd love to help, but I don't remember most of them.
The one I know, that everyone seems to learn the hard way, is that the Avengers table achievement , where you have to bang back cpt america's ball, has to be done from the right side. (left side doesn't count)

One thing I have noticed though, is that when you focus on ONLY getting the achievement, it's easier than you might think at first. Actually pulling it off is another matter, but if you keep at it, it's usually doable. (I should point out that I'm kinda an ok'ish player, so user experience might vary.)

But by all means, if you need help , just ask, the community is usually very helpful.

I think the Family Guy one should be fairly easy, where you just have to start the Quagmire multiball.
Aliens is doable as well, where you just have to complete Mission 3 (if you choose selectable mission order you can start with that).
Might of the First Order is a fast one too, you gotta start the multiball from the miniplayfield under the table

On Alien vs Predator you can sit out all the missions and the wm is really easy.
To collect the flamethrower on Alien: Isolation you only have to start up the missions. You don’t have to complete them.

Concerning FX3’s achievement in general…

The five hardest achievements in the game right now imo:

-Venom (Complete all the missions and beat the wizard mode.)
-Boba Fett (A very hard achievement in FX2. Easier in FX3 because of the Rewind upgrade but still a B****)
-Portal (Complete all the missions and beat the wizard mode.)
-Archer (A tiresome spam achievement on a very hard table.)
-Han Solo (This is a mini game of the worst kind. It takes forever to activate & complete and if you fail along the way, you have to start all over. Very frustrating.)

Followed by:

-Doom (Another spam achievement on a hard table. Easier than Archer though.)
-Pasha (Another frustrating mini game. ‘Fortunately’ you can start this one up with two well aimed shots.)
-Excalibur (Another frustrating mini game on a mini playfield. Not as hard as Han Solo but on par with Pasha imo.)
-The Force Awakens (Complete all the missions and beat the wizard mode.)
-Thor (The medal pops up after you complete all the missions. Not easy but at least you don’t have to beat the wizard mode.)
-Age of Ultron (Complete all the Assemble hurry-ups. These are basically mini-missions and not too difficult. The trick is that you have to complete them all on one ball.)
-A-Force (Not too hard but it takes some concentration. There are a few difficult shots and the table is pretty drainy.)
-The Avengers (Depends on your nudging skills. If you know how to make bang backs, playing the table for a while will get you the achievement. Otherwise, practice, practice, practice.)
-Starfighter Assault (You first have to upgrade some stuff and then play a video game. Surprisingly difficult.)
-Bob’s Burgers (Not that hard but the table is quite drainy and can be a bit confusing at first.)
-Deadpool (A doable achievement on a very hard table. Figuring out how to collect the medal is on par with collecting it.)
-Jurassic World (complete all six missions, all of them pretty easy imo, and beat the wizard mode.)

The rest is the rest. There are a couple that are just insanely easy like Biolab & El Dorado but on the whole, it depends on your personal playing style, your aiming skills, your multi ball play, your nudging skills, etc. how fast you’ll collect the others.

Of course knowing how to collect them helps too so read the official guides on the Zen site or take a look on youtube.

I haven’t made any achievement videos for FX3 because Zen took out the possibility to put the game in offline mode and make the medals pop up again This makes guide videos a lot less helpful and a lot less fun to play and record. But I was on my way to record guide videos for all of FX2’s achievements. Since almost all of FX2’s achievements carried over, you can find most of them on my youtube channel. Just check out the ‘Pinball FX2 Steam achievement videos’ playlist.

Misc. tips.
If you’re having difficulty with achievements make sure you max out the Rewind wizard power. It will make your life a lot easier.
Same goes for collecting the challenge stars. Only instead of the Rewind wizard power, upgrade the Score Multiplier wizard power.

Good luck!

Thank you for the info MuddyWolf, I have indeed been watching a lot of your videos to figure out things :)
Any many have helped me understand better how to approach the achievements.

If you don’t mind, I’d like to ask a few more directed questions then:

- Bombs Away: Does this have to be the first summon ever? The DMD is busy with other stuff a lot of the time, so I can’t always see when a shot on that ramp counts or not. Also, does the progress spelling carry over between ball drains?
- Wealthy Patron: Is there an easier way to hit the ‘ramp’ behind the drop targets? (Compared to doing it from the tip of the left flipper) I have trouble getting enough force and the ball often only goes into the opening a few cm.
- Blitzkrieg USA: In some of the videos the ball comes from the hole before the robot is on the field. Any idea how to make that happen? (Unless it is random) And is there a suggested order for the targets to prevent the robot blocking things?
- New Master Of The Force: Does the Combo Time upgrade make a difference? Enough that cradling the ball can be done between a few of the shots?
- Big Gun: Is it JUST hitting the trapped ball? Could I just practice that shot and then do it 50 times to get the BFG?
- A Legend Returns: Is Lord Squeak right? Does it only count on the right outlane?

And if the Alien vs. Predator AND the Alien Isolation ones do not require me to finish the modes, then I might stand a chance there :)
Strangely enough the Bob’s Burgers one sounds fairly doable, so I’m intending to try that one now that I know better what is and isn’t required. (I found a good and lengthy description somewhere.)
And I managed the Thor one in FX2 many MANY moons ago... So maybe muscle-memory will allow me to get it in FX3 without having to practice for months ;)

(I look forward to new videos from you. More 5 Minute Challenges help me figure out how best to try and get the stars in all 3 modes, because it shows so well how to get millions in a short time :))

Thanks for the kind words about my videos. I’m glad they’re helpful (at least some of them.)

- Bombs Away: Sorry. I can’t help you with this one. I’m not a fan of the table. When I collected the achievement for FX3, I had to watch back my own FX2 video and follow my own instructions :)

- Wealthy Patron: No. Not that I know off.

- Blitzkrieg USA: No. You can’t control the robot. You do get a very short ball save when the ball is returned to the playfield so don’t cradle the ball first. I always use this one ‘safe shot’ to try to get rid of the stone in the middle (the hardest stone to remove once the robot is on the playfield imo) or the stone in front of the magna save targets. If you hit the stone in front of the magna save targets, the ball will often deflect to the stone in front of the left ramp, removing that one too. I’d say shooting the ball towards the magna save targets, right after you get it back from the sinkhole is probably the best strategy. If you miss or if the ball doesn’t deflect to the stone at the entrance of the left ramp, it usually becomes an orbit shot that takes out the stone in front of the random reward sinkhole.

- Masters of the Force: No idea. I don’t find the combo too hard so I collected it without upgrading anything in FX3. I haven’t played the table since. I like it but I just haven’t had the time yet.

- Big Gun: Yes.

- A Legend Returns: I don’t know about FX3. I just played the table for a while and along came a bang back. I can’t remember through which outlane the ball drained. But in FX2, it didn’t matter. I just checked my youtube and in my clip of the achievement, the ball drains through the left outlane.

Good luck and you can always send me a friend request if you think I can help you with a particular medal.

No. I just haven’t had much time to play lately and I disagree with Zen on a couple of things, which spoils the enjoyment factor a bit. Also, the game is in desperate need of more achievements imo.

I might have meant the "other right" ;) (in other words, cant remember which side counts)

As I recall this was definately an issue on FX2 (and i think it still an issue on fx3, but unsure now)
I learned this the hard way, ie , do the bang back, then post a thread about it not registring the achievement, only to be told by someone else it has to be from a certain side. And I have seen several such threads since then.
If this is fixed, it's all good. If you don't get the achievement,, well,, now you know what might cause it not to register.

Yeah. I remember those threads too. I didn’t encounter problems with the achievement myself so I wasn’t paying full attention but didn’t it turn out to be because the ball had to stay in contact with the flipper for half a second or so…or touch a certain point on the flipper?

-Edit
I just took a quick peek at Dathcha’s profile and he’s collected the achievement so I guess it’s a moot point now.

It seems he found the right(/left) outlane :)

Heh, yeah I did (rather unexpectedly) get the achievement on The Avengers table.

I was intending to come back here to share any discoveries, but the only thing to report is that not every bang-back counts for whatever reason. I did it several times before the achievement popped. So there are some criteria that are not always met.

The summoning of Bombshell did seem to carry over between balls, but it still ended up being my first summoning of her, so I can’t answer the first bit of my own question.
However, if I’m right that the progress with spelling BOOM isn’t reset between ball drains then that might simplify the achievement for others too :)

Sorry to bump this topic, but wouldn't it be better if you could get the achievements in any mode, not just the single player mode?
Like the 5 minute challenge, couldn't it help make it easier for some achievements?
I can understand most of you guys are pro's and would not like this idea, but that's just what it is, an idea. To make it easier for 'the others' like me.

Calrissian Chronicles definitely deserves a place in this list. Five overly long missions on a drainy table with magnetic outlanes. At least it is fun... Till you realized you have to do the three same things again and again.

The Han Solo mini game was rather easy imo. It's not hard to start it and once you figured out how it works you will do it quickly. The Starfighter Assault achievement was much worse for me

Funhouse just pretty easy too, I just wanted to add it.
