The "value" in religion consumables is basically a hold over from a much earlier version of the game, back in the old days mitra used to offer the best early game healing item, bandages didn't exist and aloe required fire bowl, yog offered the best food without needing a stove and so on. religion stuff can be chosen on character creation, so you have access to those options much earlier, but there are similar or better items further into the knowledge tree for pretty much every religion consumable.
can be canonised as curse and gift from god in your story.
