Made worse by the fact that there is no building decay so someone builds enormous thing the size of a state or a small country and logs off forever. I get there is active RP on some servers but most of the time it's just completely dead.
And god forbid if Funcom actually went and wiped those servers so people could play on them
I've gone back to playing on my own lan server with my partner we just turn the difficulty up
Otherwise I don't see any benefits playing online PVE, it's much better to play single player on your hard drive.
-server stays up so if you fill up your stations overnight they will get processed meanwhile in a sp game you'd have to be ON and probably modify the timer in which case some people might think is cheating
-self-restraint to not abuse npc/loot respawning since in sp the "server" only process stuff arounds the player so if you go far enough and come back it will spawn new stuff back
It wouldn't look like it the amount of buildings and land grabs on official and non official servers. There is literally no where to build. And the servers are empty 90% of the time.
There are a lot of "base-refreshers", because while there IS a decay system.. it only requires you to log on once a week for a few seconds to refresh them.. so you get people who don't even play anymore, but have been doing this for months because they have a hard time letting go.
If somebody has very unreasonable buildings and claiming too much land though, you can report them and there's a good chance their base will be wiped by Funcom.
(In any case, the servers are hosted on horrible and inadequate hardware so you're better off staying away from officials for the most part anyway.. )
There are plenty of reasons to play on a public PvE server. The biggest is that you can call for help when you are getting purged. Often there is plenty of polite palaver to distract from the girnd. Giving and getting help is also rewarding. Many journey steps can be completed by "accessing: another players stations before you can/need to build that. Even the buildings can be an inspiration. Among the large sandstone blocks are a number of bases that may inspire you to build something better.
People play official for the community of building wonderful creations for other people to get inspired by. To trade and chat among others and to just enjoy the company that a community game brings.
They choose being friendly other being isolated on a barren server.
Yes theres limitations on where you can build, yes you may have to wait for that 1 spot you've had your eye on to decay. People come n go from official pve, its a matter of time. Having limits on where you can build makes you think outside of the box. You learn to adapt and learn new ways to build.
Good things:
- you can see other people's builds
- you can get nice idea what and how to build
- you can get help from other people
Bad things:
- typing in global chat is annoying, especially if you are low level, you can easily be distracted and get killed
- many popular locations are occupied, I even saw entire big island walled off
- too many big and empty buildings from other players on the map
I think I will stick with singe player for now.
Haven't played in a while but I avoided PvE like the plague because of this.
You're telling me this is still an issue?? I'm not surprised.
There should be building decay on PvE servers and it should be much faster due to the building grief most of them participate in to block resources.
If you play Online you have disconnects.
It is a matter of masochistic taste.
50 hours and I didn't experience a single crash.
