The Bazaar has always been a straight cash transaction, other than the intermediate step of having to convert cash into in-game currency. Nobody ever got anything from the Bazaar for free. It was the Battlepass content they got for free, or more accurately as bonus content to whatever they eventually spent their original 1200 crom coins on in the shop once the battlepasses were discontinued.
Yes, Real money only. Although it was ONLY real money before as well, but the battlepass used to have actually free items you didnt need to spend any money for. And battlepass was extremely fair one: All you needed to buy was the first one and you could get all the following battlepasses with the coins gained from the pass.
Thats why I was so angry at all those people complaining about battle pass, ie. complaining about getting FREE STUFF. Now its credit card only. Good job, schmucks.
Nobody complained about free stuff, stop being daft. People complained about the malicious FOMO marketing that forces a short time span to acquire the content then its gone forever until they MIGHT, MAYBE piece by piece add it to the bazaar. Which also has FOMO marketing by having a very small selection which is rotated every few days.
Tired of people defending this marketing strategy and saying out of touch things like 'complained about free stuff'. Its a disingenuous representation.
If the battle passes could be completed whenever without a time limit, nobody would have complained. DRG does it, Halo MCC does it. Any game that doesnt is trying to force you to shell out the money as quick as possible to not miss out before the artificial timer runs out.
Got the game later? Took a break from playing? Didnt have the money at the time? You are screwed.
It was the people who were riding a $10 investment and feeling entitled to content in perpetuity that forced Funcom to axe the BPs. Coincidentally, these people accused those who were against the Shop and BP of that very entitlement.
I think it was more that Funcom miscalculated. They thought more people who bought the battlepass would see something they liked in the bazaar and would spend coins on that, and then have to buy more coins for the next BP. But too many people saw the bazaar as ridiculously overpriced and were content to just rolling their coins over for the next season BP, and not that they felt entitled. Very little in the bazaar is a good value for money. The old DLCs were great, I have them all. If they had made each of those BP seasons as new DLCs instead I'm sure many people would have bought them.
