Crafting Steel Bars not Working?

Pretty much the title, I make the iron bars, craft the Steelfire, put both in the forge and start it, but nothing happens.

What's going on? Everything I've looked up says to make steel bars exactly how I've tried it.

I just made steel bars so ....not using any mods

You need a T3 or T4 blacksmith to turn iron reinforcements + steelfire into steel reinforcements on the blacksmith bench. You can turn three iron bars + steelfire into one steel bar in the furnace with no thrall attached.

Not sure what bench you are referring to as the "forge."

What's going on? If you aren't playing around with mods then there's a 99% chance that you're just doing it wrong. As thurgond stated you put steelfire and iron bars in the FURNACE with fuel and turn the furnace on to make steel bars. It's that simple...

If you're trying to use the volcanic forge... well, this is from the wiki:

The Volcanic Forge, unlike other forges, will not auto create bars. The player must obtain the Obsidian Tools (Knowledge) via a tablet, located behind the final dungeon boss, before the forge can be used.

What's going on? If you aren't playing around with mods then there's a 99% chance that you're just doing it wrong. As thurgond stated you put steelfire and iron bars in the FURNACE with fuel and turn the furnace on to make steel bars. It's that simple...

If you're trying to use the volcanic forge... well, this is from the wiki:

I'm using the second level furnace to try it, it didn't even work with the basic one.

I don't even have any mods that affect steel, just a shader and some character customization mods. Does literally any mod mess with it?

The point here is - for the vanilla game, Furnace + Fuel + Iron Ignot (x3) + Steelfire = Steel.

Either you are doing it wrong, or something is wrong with your game, and yes, mods CAN break stuff they seemingly don't interact with. If you got a problem in the game, first make sure that you reproduce it without any mods active, or find the mod responsible.

I don't even have any mods that affect steel, just a shader and some character customization mods. Does literally any mod mess with it?

No I meant my game is not modded ....Either way if you have mods installed anything can happen

I figured it out, there was a ghost of one of the mods I used a loooong time ago hiding in my files but not showing up in my mod browser.
