If funcom will resolve bugs and optimization this should be the best survival game
A quick search through all the available mods will give you all you want.
As far as Funcom adding anything to the game, you are looking at least 9 months before any thing happens.
Mods are are your only way for change at the moment.
Btw, I love the Skyrim series. From ES III to ESOL, I have them all.
As simplistic as it is, Morrowind is still my all time favourite.
They're basically in "fix bugs" mode right now and no new content is coming any time soon - and maybe never.
