2025- Taking Conan Exiles Screenshots using F12?
I want to use F12 and get rid of the overlay . F12 takes a screenshot but the overlay remains.
Alt-Z or maybe it's Alt F2 pulls up an interface but my screenshots are ending up in my Nvidia folder. Because I want to post them in Steam, I'd prefer not to take them and then have to import them into the Game's Steam Image folder.

So F-12 is there a way to turn off the HUD before taking the screen and having it end up so Steam sees it to post in this forum? Thank you

If you can't do this, what is the best way to create and put the images into your game's Steam screenshot folder I'm just going to try to copy and paste .jpg images into that folder and see if Steam sees them.

You pretty much answered your own question by accident.
Alt-Z hides the game HUD completely but keeps you in play mode, while V turns on vanity mode which also hides the HUD, just gives you a bit of a different camera angle that you can also rotate freely around the character.
After that you can just use your F12 to take steam screenshots. (And yes, Alt+F2 is nvidia ansel for taking pictures using that)

I'm thinking the problem is that Alt-Z is the hotkey to open the nvidia interface to take screenshots, start recording etc. The game never sees the keypress. If you change the hotkey on Conan for Toggle GUI to something else then you can hide the HUD and use F12 normally. The problem is finding a key combination that the game's not using, and the game doesn't seem to handle hotkeys properly. For example, if you set the GUI key to Alt-P, then it works to toggle the HUD, but it also interprets the Alt key and does a dodge.

I'm not seeing the HUD go away with either key combo. It puts me into ansel.

I'll try this and if it works, you'll get a reward! :steamhappy: I'm using Razer devices and it's pretty easy to set up a 2 key macro to make this happen. I'll see what I can come up with and report back.

OK, under Settings>Menu, I remapped "Remove GUI" to ALT-X and this removes the HUD! :D:D.

Now I'm realizing that I also want the action stopped so I have more control of snap shots, Part of the problem here is that Conan runs as a server, if you open the consol, nothing stops, like other games where this would freeze the action, here it does not.

I have to admit that Ansel is nice in that it freezes and action and allows you can move the camera around. If there is no way o accomplish both things, remove HUD (GUI) and freeze action with a minimum of key strokes, since I have folder shortcuts to both the Ansel screens and to my Steam screens, maybe just drag them from one to the other after a play session. Another complication is that Nvidia produces .pngs,

But not so fast. Steam requires .jpgs and the default Windows photo manager does not include a way to convert photos from one to another. I may have to look for a free or low coast photo converter. I have Graphic Converter on my Mac, but that just creates another step I have to take to get the screen shots into Steam. :/ Any thoughts on using key strokes to accomplish this?
Thanks!

I have a couple ideas, assuming this is not an actual server.

Conan has the console command SLOMO which sets the time scale. "slomo 1.0" is default. Typing "slomo 0.01" doesn't freeze time, but it's 1/100th speed. I've never tried slomo 0.

Another option would be installing the Improved Quality of Life mod. One of it's less known features is pausing the action. Press Shift-ESC to stop, and Shift-ESC again to resume.

Neither of those would let you move the camera though.

For any image processing on windows I just use paint.net, a free 'spiritual successor' to windows Paint. Available from the website getpaint.net (NOT paint.net). I've only used batch graphics converters in linux, and not for a few years.

Thanks much I'll probably get Paint net. Use Ansel to capture, then for snaps I want to up load to steam, I'll process them and transfer them to the screenshot folder.

This game is unique, all the games I play (except this one) if you open the consul, you'll freeze motion. I was not uploading Cyberpunk 2077 images to Steam, so I was happy with it's Photo System, but those might have been ending up in the Steam folder? I'd have to check that but I could open the consul to stop things, removed the HUD, and then take a screenshot with F12.

You're welcome. I've never done much with Ansel. I'll have to try it out more. The screenshot capabilities in Conan is limited. I do like games that have a freecam mode.
