currently just started, playing single player and these guys hurt alot. Im gna start farming hide to make paddings but idk which armor to use, i also dont have a main weapon atm as im still trying to figure out what works for me but currently bow has been my goto. i can kite easily and damage feels on par with other melee ive tried.

Early game you'll find a few characters along the southern river that will reliably drop medium armour which is a decent starting set. Once you have a couple of levels I'd recommend travelling up to Xalthar's Refuge which is just south of the border between J7 & J8. If you can kill a few disciples of Sobek they'll drop Sobek armour, each piece of which will give you +40 HP. The Sobek armour is medium armour so won't deplete your stamina too much when fighting, offers excellent armour values and when worn as a set gives you +200 HP which early to mid game is a huge boost to your survivability.

So i haven't played early game in so long i dnt remeber what armor i used early game but it was always heavy armor and i used axeand sheild, went with redeemed legion armor as soon as i unlocked it as it was heavy armor and it has one of the best temp resistances in game then whe. I unlocked god breaker armor i swicthed the helmet foe the god breaker helm because its gas mask feature and swapped the boots for chilled god breaker to try amd balance out the temp resistance in balance from the helm change, then i use the legendary gate keep axe, with the temp resistance i can go almost anywhere on the map there are now just a few select spots i have to do extra to survive the temp as far as stats i have 15 into stregnth 20 vitality 20 grit 5 expertise, i go into fights hopeing to dodge everything but have enough armor to take a few hits from most things with out being to hurt

Armor is very much situational. What you farm in, what you pvp in, what you pve, etc... are often quite different.

Much also depends on your player attributes. If you are focusing on strength attributes, there is armor that gives you boosts for that. There is also armor that boost for agility-based attributes. And armor for encumbrance, stamina, etc...

Then there's encumbrance. Heavy armor is exactly that, heavy. You can reduce armor weight significantly at the tinkers bench, but you need to unlock that knowledge first. So that's a levelling thing.

I recommend consulting the conan wiki for seeking out the specific armor that you want.

If not, standard medium armor or standard heavy armor (both with encumbrance bonus) are the typical "starter" go-to's for most early players. Or if you're quick on your feet with agility focus, standard light armor is fair enough.

I just usually go and kill / farm chests in mound or other difficult area. Use the weapons, tools and armors coming from those.

Unlike with weapons there isn't really mid-game armor. The closest equivalent might be the armor you can loot from the npcs in the first section of the Sunken City dungeon. I often run directly there when starting a brand new character on a PVP server, but that could be a challenge for an inexperienced player. Another option is the armor you can loot from the Cimmerians at the Mounds of the Dead, but I don't feel as confident taking them on naked with stone weapons as I do the Dagon Cultists. Lastly, for an option that requires less combat skill, I think the armor that comes from the second upgrade to the Ymir altar might be the best you can craft prior to reaching the level to craft perfected padding. (Unless you loot perfected padding, which is a viable shortcut for an experienced player starting over with a new character, but difficult for a newbie learning the combat.)

I get armor of sobek from Xalthar's Refuge you dont have too complete the dungeon just drop a bedroll and farm the first 2 or 4 at the entrance for a bit you can grab black claws from the den then head over there. I go Den for black claws sinkhole to unlock dragon xalthars for armor of sobek. i toss the weapons in a dismantiling bench for dragon bone and obsidian.

Early game is all about darfari bone axe. (weapon knowledge is in the camp, front of Dregs dungeon)

Mid game Falcata, Steel mace, steel daggers and ancient pike from dogs of war or black hand faction. After that hardened steel either from Heirs of the North or Stygian soldiers patrolling near the fortress.

Then it is cimmerians and Starmetal weapons or straight to unnamed city to farm The Brute for legendary Predatory Blade or Dregs dungeon for legendary katana for agi build.
Dogs of war/Den there is large were hyena in the middle of the place that drops Obsidian legendary hammer (low chance). There is also legendary black claw weapon outside in the bench near one of the bearer spawn points (again low spawn chance).

Dogs of war fighters/archers also drops hyena fur armor set pieces which is good early to mid game armor set. (concussion and follower damage). Usually hyena helm and gloves require little bit of farming other pieces drop frequently.

Never use your knowledge points to any weapon tech enemies drops all the weapons you ever need. You don't need to craft a single weapon except journey requirements and darfari bone axe in early game after that use all enemy dropped weapons until you hit level 60.

i had a few weapon drops from enemies but i cant repair them, apparently we need to unlock the recipe for em to repair :/
thurgond Sep 22, 2024 @ 7:36pm
Weapon repair kits are a fairly frequent drop. Don't hesitate to use them on dropped weapons. You will have another or a better weapon before any weapon wears out a second time.
PostalGibbon Sep 22, 2024 @ 10:14pm
Use advanced weapon repair kits to fix weapons you find.
If you farm weapons/hyena fur armor set from dogs or war faction you get more advanced weapon repair kits than you need to use.

Later when you farm unnamed city for shards of power you get ton of both legendary weapon and armor kits. (and legendary weapons)

Also remember to dismantle all weapons that are close to being destroyed from use (this important for hardened and star metal weapons because you get hardened and star metal bars by dismantling).

Those bars then can be used to make epic armors before you have to go frost temple and mine black ice there in order to smelt hardened steel bars.

Lots of decent choices for early weapons. Most of the NPCs along the river drop stone weapons but occasionally you might come across one that drops a Falcata which would be a good early choice. If you go a little north of the river to one of the pirate camps you'll find sorcerers who can drop steel poinard daggers and other NPCs who sometimes drop iron maces or cutlasses, all of which are also good choices.

If you're feeling particularly brave you could run all the way up to Al-Merayah. If you can avoid the endlessly spawning enemies and manage to climb over the western wall of the castle, one of the outbuildings:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3336524343

contains a Musashi's Black Blade which is a top-tier unique katana. For the early to mid game don't worry about weapon type (strength or agility) - eventually you'll be able to re-assign trait points more or less at will, so at the start weapon damage is way more important than weapon type.

do you know any war factions or dogs location south of the map? was looking through wiki but none of the factions lists em having advanced repair kit for loot

Kill the skeletons just to the east of the Sinkhole, or go a little north of there into Dogs of the Desert territory.

One weapon option that hasn't been mentioned is the 2HD hammer. You could get a steel hammer from the Black Hand. With it's high armor penetration you can mow through rocknoses for good experience in the middle levels.
