That being said, you would probably be better off downloading the map mods 'Savage Wilds' and 'The Isle of Women' if money is a concern. Both have Siptah content baked into them, and are free to download. They are both great and a really solid experience.
Some of my thoughts:
- 2 new building sets you can also use in Exiled Lands. I especially personally love the Flotsam set, but the other one is cool too.
- Siptah is very open for better and for worse. There is a TON of space that doesn't really have anything in there. This is ideal for building large bases etc. But can be boring when exploring. Especially before getting a horse, etc.
- The balance is all over the place. High level items can be found literally right next to your spawn. I found star metal bars etc. from the first camps I looted. As well as gold and silver ore and coins in abundance. Just across the hill you can harvest black ice as well. This isn't *that* big of a deal as you still need the higher level knowledge etc. But something to consider.
- Exiled Lands feels like there's a story, a grand setting and mythos to uncover. With Siptah.... There's not a lot going on. There are some lore tidbits, and you can find some characters, but it's not a lot.
There are dungeons, in the shape of the Vaults, but I have never played far enough to see what they're like, but I haven't heard good things.
Basically, if you like to have more space than Exiled Lands, or you just want something else to explore, it's worth it. There's a lot of content after all. But just understand that it's going to be a different kind of experience.
- The Vaults are nice in the sense that they give the game a proper "dungeon crawl" format with monsters and chests in every room, for people who crave that experience.
- The general abundance of resources can be a plus or minus depending on your play style. Basically it's better if you don't want to have to climb around a remote frozen wasteland hunting black ice and star metal.
- Extreme temperature zones are pretty rare, so that's much less of a concern, again can be good or bad depending on how much you enjoyed that mechanic. No sandstorm either.
- A lot of the oddities of the map design are a side effect of the map being mostly designed as a PvP arms race arena, like the abundance of black ice and other stuff around Vaults, the central Tower area being the meteor shower zone, etc. I don't care about PvP in this game, so I couldn't tell you how well that works out in practice.
- Eldarium weapons and some of the armors are pretty cool.
- The only large NPC town is the pirate village on the northernmost island, so that's the closest thing you'll see to a Sepermeru type area.
With that being said, Siptah isn't as fun to explore as the Exiled Lands. As the first reply said, you can always download free mod maps from the workshop if you want a fun map to explore.
This is more a nitpick of mine, but I don't like the lighting on Siptah at all. The coast is exceptionally saturated, the east is covered in shadow from tree cover, and the west suffers from near-perpetual cloud-cover (it really should be sunny in that biome). The nights are also very dark, more so than the Exiled Lands, requiring upping the gamma to see beyond your own nose.
As far as positives, there's a sizeable amount of gear unique to the island. The Vaults, although they are tuned more for end-game, provide a decent chunk of content to explore through. Siptah also comes with the Flotsam and Stormglass building sets which you may enjoy; Flotsam is maritime wreckage cobbled together, while Stormglass is very geometric art-deco and similar to the architecture found on the island.
If you are playing solo (and maybe coop, not sure), you can transfer your character to and from Siptah, allowing you to treat it more as an expansion than an entirely separate experience. Since the human factions and Vault content are skewed more toward the endgame, you'd only be missing out on the leveling, which you'd have already done elsewhere.
I think overall Siptah is worth getting if you already like the base game, though given the time of year if you wait a little bit you may be able to get it on sale.
