New System Requirements
I know it has been a minute since they did it, but I am still confused by the spike in the listed CPU requirement for this game.

For years, ever since launch, I have been playing this game with an i5-7600k CPU. Now it says I need an i5-10400f.

Can anyone explain to me why they did this? Am i still going to be able to play the game with my current CPU? I have all the other requirements covered. I have a good graphics card and more than enough RAM. I just don't want to start playing and end up with a blue screen because the devs decided to upgrade the game to the point that I have to buy a new CPU in order to play it.

Anyone tried to play it with a 7600k or equivalent CPU? I am curious to know if older processors will still play the game. I had heard that it was only certain bazaar items that pushed it up to the current reqs, but I was hoping someone could tell me for sure.

Oh, and to those who will say "just try it and see if it works", I'm not doing that. I've had far too many issues over the years from doing exactly that, including trashed hardware, blue screens, and corrupted files. Maybe I'm just being silly and paranoid, but I would like to know for sure it will work before I try it.

Any answers will be appreciated.

Thank you for listening.

Have a nice day.

Playing on a i5-7400 while my AM5 is on the way.

I honestly don't know what the CPU requirement is about as even in high populated locations in game I have smooth 60 fps and graphical settings (that doesn't matter a lot to the question) are on high.

I was hoping that would be the case. I had heard rumblings that the req increase was an answer to people complaining that the game wasn't optimized. Or that maybe some of the new stuff in the crown store, like inns/taverns, pushed things a little hard. It seemed like a pretty extreme jump in the minimums for something so minor, but that was what I was hearing. I guess the devs just overreacted to something and overcompensated.

Thank you for answers. Much appreciated.

If anyone else has anything to add, I welcome it. Any insight on this sort of thing is great. I like to think I know tech fairly well, but I've been burned a few times so I always appreciate advice from those that know more.

Thank you for listening.

Have a nice day.

Pure speculation, perhaps the reason the minimum requirements have been altered is because the minimum rig for the game developers has also been altered. You know hardware upgrades can happen, I'd not be at all surprised if funcom invested in new hardware for dune's development, if true maybe the CE team got a little upgrade too?

No, it's much simpler than that.
The listed requirements weren't changed since launch, but the game has.. the map is 3 times as large for example than what it was back then and a ridiculous number of new systems have been added since.
It's just not the same game anymore, so they simply updated the list to more modern hardware, which is a good thing as every time we had to explain to people that the listed system requirements are outdated whenever they tried to play on very old hardware and were getting poor performance.
This doesn't mean you need the exact hardware or newer though, older hardware that was just as performant will be perfectly fine, especially when it comes to CPU.

Perhaps there is a future upgrade that may require the services of a beefier CPU. The recommended Intel 8 core/16 thread 2.50-4.80 GHz CPU does seem a bit over the top at the moment though.
I'm running an Intel E-1650, 6 core/12 thread 3.20-3.80 GHz.
My previous PC (a HP Elite 8000) was running a Q9550 3.0 GHz (4 core-no hyper threading) CPU. It ran CE with no problems.
Your i5-7600K should handle it fine.
