Help adjusting the day night cycle please?
Hi everyone. I'm a new player (xbox).

I'm playing single player, and I'd like to slow the day/night cycle down so the days are long enough to allow me a daily routine of sorts. At least an hour long days.

The settings are:

Day Cycle Speed
Day Time Speed
Night Time Speed
Dawn/Dusk Time Speed

All default to 1.0. I looked up an article that explained it. The default is a full day night cycle of 30 minutes. Changing it to 0.5 will make a full hour cycle, 30 min day and 30 min night.

I'd basically like to make the day at least an hour, and keep the night the same (meaning the same as the day) so I would change it to 0.25, is that right? It will actually only let me set it to 0.2 though.

My question is would I set the Day Time Speed and Night Time Speed? Or the Day Cycle Speed? Or both?

And the lowest the slider will go down to, all the way to the left, is 0.1. How long would that make it?

Thanks everyone. Would appreciate any help.

Edited for clarity.

Adjust day time speed to be slower, this should work for what you want. Default day time hours is around twenty mins, so setting the day time speed to 0.3 should make it roughly an hour long. Default night time is much shorter and will probably need a deeper adjustment for parity, because night is split between dawn, dusk and night, you will in all likelihood need to alter all of those settings.

*Edit* You can consult the wiki for additional information on server settings.

These are my settings:
Day Cycle: 1.0
Daylight Cycle: 0.5
Nighttime Cycle: 0.2
Dawn/Dusk Cycle: 0.3

Give that a try.

Thanks very much. That all helps a lot.

So your nights are a bit longer than the days, right? Is there a reason for that?

I'm sure you noticed how short the night cycle is with all settings at default of 1.0.
The night doesn't really have a chance to be what it is meant to be.
These settings allow for the night to be dark which is pretty much the way it really is (or at least should be).
You may be right about night being a bit longer than the day in the way I have it set up.
However:
An important setting that balances those out is the Dawn/Dusk cycle which blurs that time difference and assists in the perception that both night and day are about the same length of time. The Dawn/Dusk Cycle provides for a very smooth transition between them (being neither too long or too short).

The only reason I have for setting it that way is so the total of Daylight, Nighttime and Dawn/Dusk cycles add up to the Day Cycle default numerical value of 1.0.
It's not written in stone but it works for me and it's a satisfying result of experimenting with the settings.
