Report a translation problem
As much as I have used the GPortal one, but I dont anymore. That one indeed I see many people saying it is not to be used.
When I used GPortal Servers, I still used the FTP and the game commands to handle most server stuff, because GPortal interface is terrible.
I would wager most problems Official and GPortal clients have is from GPortal "stuff", and hosting elsewhere often is better.
About the problem with adding players, it might be that either the player, or you, must know the player's FuncomID.
It probably show at the mid bottom of the screen on top of the version and other client data when you put up the main menu (ctrl M or esc).
For the GPortal I simply uploaded the whitelist.txt.
The numbers there are the steamid64, which is the ID shown in the account info on the app (windows or android) the person can see. While sharing that id is not a problem. only the person can see it that way.
I suppose the funcom service does know that id and put it in the file.
Specifically, the command was
