Unless i am mistaken there is no direct reference to the events in the movie, only things from the stories. Which in my mind makes it non-canon but its pretty open to interpretation too.
Though if I'm honest, i don't really care either way.
Pretty much the same thing about Marvel Comics and MCU these days.
The movie with Arnie is a completely different story, Conan story is different, places and people are from different places, with different backstories and different cronology.
She is a character from the tales, even the REH originals which was changed to the one you see in the movies, for the movies.
She was tall, full-bosomed, and large-limbed, with compact shoulders. Her whole figure reflected an unusual strength, without detracting from the femininity of her appearance. She was all woman, in spite of her bearing and her garments. The latter were incongruous, in view of her present environs. Instead of a skirt she wore short, wide-legged silk breeches, which ceased a hand's breadth short of her knees, and were upheld by a wide silken sash worn as a girdle. Flaring-topped boots of soft leather came almost to her knees, and a low-necked, wide-collared, wide-sleeved silk shirt completed her costume. On one shapely hip she wore a straight double-edged sword, and on the other a long dirk. Her unruly golden hair, cut square at her shoulders, was confined by a band of crimson satin.(Red Nails)
So the character that James Earl Jones played, was he canon? And his 2 bodyguards? And the king's daughter that Conan rescued? Subutai?
Thulsa Doom is a Howard character. He was primarily the enemy of Kull, long before Conans time. Though he did start messing with Conan in the comic book series.
Other than Valeria, the other characters were made for the movie.

In the movie they showed Thulsa Doom transform into a snake, is that canon?
Also who are his 2 bodyguards?
Rexor and Thorgrim
