Has to be an improved or T3 armorers bench and you have to have unlocked the Shields Epic knowledge.

Unless you are going for a specific look, you will find better shields out in the world.

If you click on a thing you want (but can't learn yet, or haven't learned yet), it'll show you what prerequisites you need for it.

Things you've learned are green.
Things you CAN learn, but haven't are brown.
Things you can't learn (because there's a missing prerequisite) are red.

Note also, you can't learn everything (at least not right away). The number of Knowledge points you earn from 1-60 is insufficient to learn everything.

You can however, reset your knowledge points (using Alchemy).
And you can earn additional knowledge points by gaining Fragments of Power (which are sometimes dropped by world bosses and dungeon bosses).

Part of the issue is you can learn Hardened Steel Shield at lvl 52, but it requires a Shield Frame, which you cannot get until lvl 60, when you learn Star Metal Shield. So Hardened Steel Shield is a completely useless waste of points.

Well, cant expect them to tidily organize the flow of tech if they cant even get the custom split stack to work after an update.
Give it some weeks.

I finished the game just days before this update dropped, which was probably good timing..


Ill return eventually to complete the expansion too but I'll wait a bit
