Pick up sticks and stones, make either a Stone Mace or a Stone Sword. (Or some other dedicated weapon if you prefer the animations, a Spear maybe).
You'll need to invest some knowledge points to do that.
Make a stone hatchet and a stone pick. Harvest some trees, make a Wooden Shield.
Build some crafting stations, make some leather armor.
Learn the animations of the things attacking you, block when THEY attack, attack when they're recovering. Use roll to dodge attacks. It ain't exactly Dark Souls, but you're not supposed to tank damage. Dodge, block, move. Don't get swarmed, multiple enemies will overwhelm you. Don't just stand there taking damage from stuff that's too tough for you, turn around and run.
At 15, with Stone equipment, you should be able to fight the Shalebacks, and the Hyenas, and if you're CAREFUL, the crocs. You should be able to fight the Exiles too, but don't try to take on more than one at a time.
It's a survival game, the world really is trying to kill you.
Improved hunting bow and two handed stone sword, i've also tried stone club and wooden shield. Cant get anything better beacuse I need metal and havent found any.
Look for the grey rocks on the ground, those are Iron Ore nodes, you can just mine them and smelt them. They're all over the area around the river, though not usually in clusters of more than two or three at once. As you move north, you'll find larger clusters of nodes, but those are typically guarded by Rocknoses.
swim along the river, it's safer than running/walking. Go to I5 on the map, there's a Blackhand camp there, but there are lots of Ore nodes around the water's edge that you can mine without aggroing the guards.
You absolutely do not need any DLC to make progress. The DLC is all 100% optional. A few DLC items are slightly better or slightly easier to make than their non DLC counterparts but they don't confer enough of a bonus compared to other items that it matters. It's almost all cosmetic.
If you're level 15 and still using bottom timer equipment, and it sounds like you are because you mentioned a stone sword and an improved hunting bow, then I'm not surprised. If you haven't put points into vitality boosting attributes then you're going to get demolished quickly if you get hit. Get some iron as Nakos suggested then upgrade your gear, get some light or medium armour, and build your attributes for high health and high strength if you're struggling with fights. You can get in game consumables that can re-set your stats/knowledge so you can re-spec your character if you don't like what you've done with it.
Get a thrall, or a pet, as early as you can. They can distract enemies while you're fighting and they make fights much, much easier in most cases. Pets are much easier to get since you can just pick up juveniles but you have to knock thralls out but they're generally a lot weaker.
Once you understand this game's basics you'll find that the early fights along the newbie river aren't actually all that bad most of the time (even if your level is pretty low) and you'll learn what enemies can kill you quickly - they're not all created equal. There are corrupted/demonic versions of some of the basic animals that are out there and when you bump into them you'll notice a massive difference in the damage you take. You can usually identify tougher enemies by the way they look, and you will see a skull on their health bar, or if they're a "world boss" they'll have 3 skulls.
Try out different weapons and make sure you mix light and heavy attacks until you find the ones that best suit each situation. Slow attacks won't be great against a small group of quick enemies unless you can launch the attack before they get close. Timing matters and sometimes you're better off NOT trying to pull off a full attack combo. Some weapons are better against groups than others, some are better against armoured opponents than others. For example hammers and maces have decent armour penetration so do well against heavily armoured opponents (and maces can sunder armour) but great axes have higher damage but most have no armour penetration so they're better against animals or creatures with low armour values. Weapons that can cause bleed, like daggers, can work well against armoured enemies since the bleed effect bypasses armour.
Don't fight them too far from their starting locations and they usually won't re-set like that. I do agree that this behaviour can be super annoying but it also lets you run from most enemies. Most of them will only chase you a short distance from their spawn or tether point. A few will chase you much farther, though, so be aware of that.
I'm probably going to play the rest of the game with god/creative mode on tbh.
I wasn't clear - it doesn't matter what weapon you are using. The problem is that you're moving too far away from their starting point while fighting them so they get "out of range" and re-set back to that point.
It's annoying and is definitely something Funcom should fix. When ACTIVELY fighting they should not be able to run back to their spawn/tether point and heal fully just because you stepped a tiny bit too far away but they can and once you know how that system works, and what its flaws are, it's not too hard to keep it from happening in most situations.
Most boss (3 skull) enemies have a much larger tether range for fights to prevent them from re-setting as easily, which is necessary because their health poos are ridiculous and some of their attacks hit in a wide area, but this also means they'll chase you a LOT farther than regular enemies will.
Pretty sure they've reduced the leash distance AGAIN. It's now almost equal to the aggro distance for some mobs. I aggroed a Nordheimer, he ran up to me, took a chunk out of my hide and the moment I hit him back, he reset and ran home. That's just ridiculous.
Possible, I feel like some enemies run back to their tether point much sooner than they used to.
This is one of those games that's always had bugs and issues like this, you basically have to learn to work around most of them. This one's frustrating even when you know why it's happening and even if you know how to deal with it because sometimes it still happens despite your best efforts.
