I really don't think there are any must have items in the journey rewards. It's mostly transitional stuff. I don't think there are any benefits afforded to the crafting bench unlock, and it takes up more space so for me it's a pass anyway. As for things like armor and weapons, nothing from journey steps is BIS to my incomplete knowledge.
I took advantage of journey's for a while for fun, but lately I skip them after level 10.
Right after you spawn go to Hanuman's Grotto in H3, kill and skin all the imps for XP and Hide. Inside the cave you will find a number of crystal nodes to mine for a big XP bump.
After that head to a cave called Warren of the Degenerates in the south east corner of F6 at the top of the river bend closes the east wall of the unnamed city. It's basically the same cave, but with a lot more imps and a whole lot more crystal. This should get you to level 25.
I usually go grab the chests and sorcery unlock at Shaleback Hollow directly after this, running past the undead shalebacks. You probably can't fight them, but there are usually some steel weapons and tools in those chests go get you started.
Obviously all the iron you will ever need is in F5, but those rocknose are really good XP. Depending on the drops from the chests at the back of the hollow get your metal tools from here. You're going to want something with armor penetration to kill the rocks.
Once I'm set for simple carry weight armor, metal tools, and a not stone weapon I usually head to L6. There are a ton of imps and more importantly shoebills around the eastern barracks. Shoebills are basically XP pinatas, and are great to get you to 40.
Once you get to level 40 (this whole process should only take a couple hours) Head north to a dungeon called The Passage in K9. You're going to be fighting tons of spiders, reapers, and coming out the other side in the snow at H10 so bring some aloe and spicy food.
Usually I would say go for black ice at this point, but I believe they nerfed that XP, so from here you're on your own. Dismantle fish trophies, kill rock noses by new asgard, hunt mammoth, take your chances with the black ice, hunt boar for pork, etc.. I like the last two.
You had best look again. https://conanexiles.fandom.com/wiki/The_Exiles_Journey
A few examples for ya if you don't want to read through the wiki entries. The improved tanning bench is far larger than the base bench but it does provide +100% crafting speed. The improved dismantling bench gives more items per dismantle. The perfected armours you can unlock are better than the regular versions. The improved versions of weapons are better than their base counterparts. The prying kit lets you remove attachments from equipment.
The game truly begins at 60 and many of us have played from level one more than a few times so there's no point in wasting time getting to max level if we don't have to. Better equipment and tools means you can do more and waste less time gathering if you want to build a fairly large base with good thralls.
just play the game, it need not days to reach 60 , and yes i have many, many times make new chars.
Well, you're "just playing the game" if you try to level fast, or if you don't, so you don't need to keep repeating that.
If you have made many new characters then you must know how much of a massive difference it makes once you hit max level - and why lots of us don't want to waste time playing the early levels.
