Snakes - the ultimate food source? No? How about boar and bison?
Well, I have to say I was surprised at the volume of meat you can get from a tiny cobra. I got a stack of 33 from one, and 32 from another using the starmetal cleaver on the Isle of Siptah. My character does have the x2 gathering ability from the survival attribute, but 30+ pieces from one tiny snake is a bit ridiculous considering that wolves and other larger animals usually yield about half that amount.

I can't help but think this is a bug since many larger animals yield a lot less meat, however it's not the only critter I've seen that produces huge amounts of food. The amount of pork you get from a boar and the amount of exquisite meat you get from bison is even more impressive, I frequently get more than 50 pork from boars, and over 100 meat from bison. It seems excessive. Is this intended, or a glitch? Anyone else run into this?

Actually, that is about right. Assuming you get about 200 individual cuts of meat from a 500+ carcass of beef, not even counting the ground beef. That's from a cow that is probably substantially smaller than a bison and as to those piggies; at least the ones on Siptah, are no shrimps either.

If we're talking about taking a couple hours to butcher an animal properly in the real world, sure. But we're not.

We're talking about a character in a game taking two whacks at an animal with a cleaver and then walking off with enough meat to feed an army. It's mostly about the fact that a very small cobra produces an equivalent amount of meat as a much larger creature, such as an alligator, in the game. It's really all about whether or not there's a glitch or issue with the systems and I think there is when you compare the yield to other animals of a similar size in the game. It's not the only thing that makes no sense, the decay timer on eggs is 10 minutes which is ridiculously short since eggs can last for a rather long time. It should be at least an hour or two.

Yeah, we can discuss reality all day long and how it applies to the game. Same thing with building, crafting armor or anything else. All I said, is that it isn't completely unrealistic to expect X amount of cuts of meat from a animal of a certain size.

I suppose it would make sense if we said it is 'symbolic' of butchering an animal? The balance of realism and unrealistic stuff in a survival game is something that can make or break it's appeal. I mean, think if you only get 2 steaks from a bison and have to spend all day long playing Meat Harvesting Simulator? Same thing with building: would you want to spend hours building a wall, I do that in real life.

As to the eggs thing, sorry I am not seeing only 10 minutes on our server, maybe it is the server settings where you are playing? Or maybe I am not looking closely at the egg timer. I usually just harvest them and put them in the fridge...which by the way keeps it's ice indefinitely, thank goodness or we would be playing "Throw out rotten food or collect Ice all day simulator".

It would be quite the challenge to set up a butchering animation, even more so of a challenge to have it set up specifically for different carcasses.

Re: Egg decay - I'm usually on an official server, no mods and standard settings. I also toss them in a preservation box whenever I head back to a base that has one, but when I'm out running around for a couple hours and happen to pick up a few eggs early on they're usually gone before I get back. Not a game breaker, but annoying. Should be at least a 2 hour timer on them.

The point is that the yield is unbalanced. Some creatures that should give a lot of meat don't, some that shouldn't do. Again, not a game breaker but it's just one of many things that aren't balanced properly.

Could you please do your list of balanced yield? Maybe we can discuss it after we see them..

I mean if that were a thing, then it would require a butcher crafting station which could be attended by a cook. Actually, that isn't all that bad an idea, although people would be up in arms about an additional crafting station. Although, it could be either: get only small amounts of meat if you butcher in the field or get a big yield if brought to the butcher.

Tangentially, I thought the developers missed the boat with the big crafting update by not including a couple of extra expanded stove or cooking stations along with some additional recipes. I am no Bobby Flay or Guy Fiero, but it would've been kind of fun to have a bigger stove type station beyond the Improved Cookstove, with maybe two crafter stations on it and an Improved Preservation box attached. One could've been a saucier, another could've been the head chef. I'm forgetting a salad chef or desert chef, lol. Hey, we need healthier alternatives for my slim and fit archers, like salads....:) Don't forget the walk-in freezer, instead of having several Improved preservation boxes. Anyway, I digress.

No.
