If we're talking about taking a couple hours to butcher an animal properly in the real world, sure. But we're not.
We're talking about a character in a game taking two whacks at an animal with a cleaver and then walking off with enough meat to feed an army. It's mostly about the fact that a very small cobra produces an equivalent amount of meat as a much larger creature, such as an alligator, in the game. It's really all about whether or not there's a glitch or issue with the systems and I think there is when you compare the yield to other animals of a similar size in the game. It's not the only thing that makes no sense, the decay timer on eggs is 10 minutes which is ridiculously short since eggs can last for a rather long time. It should be at least an hour or two.
I suppose it would make sense if we said it is 'symbolic' of butchering an animal? The balance of realism and unrealistic stuff in a survival game is something that can make or break it's appeal. I mean, think if you only get 2 steaks from a bison and have to spend all day long playing Meat Harvesting Simulator? Same thing with building: would you want to spend hours building a wall, I do that in real life.
As to the eggs thing, sorry I am not seeing only 10 minutes on our server, maybe it is the server settings where you are playing? Or maybe I am not looking closely at the egg timer. I usually just harvest them and put them in the fridge...which by the way keeps it's ice indefinitely, thank goodness or we would be playing "Throw out rotten food or collect Ice all day simulator".
The point is that the yield is unbalanced. Some creatures that should give a lot of meat don't, some that shouldn't do. Again, not a game breaker but it's just one of many things that aren't balanced properly.
Could you please do your list of balanced yield? Maybe we can discuss it after we see them..
Tangentially, I thought the developers missed the boat with the big crafting update by not including a couple of extra expanded stove or cooking stations along with some additional recipes. I am no Bobby Flay or Guy Fiero, but it would've been kind of fun to have a bigger stove type station beyond the Improved Cookstove, with maybe two crafter stations on it and an Improved Preservation box attached. One could've been a saucier, another could've been the head chef. I'm forgetting a salad chef or desert chef, lol. Hey, we need healthier alternatives for my slim and fit archers, like salads....:) Don't forget the walk-in freezer, instead of having several Improved preservation boxes. Anyway, I digress.
No.
