Yeah, but I'd prefer to have Giovanni Paolo II in charge than Dennis the Menace, Funcom, and Tencent.
How is that possible? You would have to go outside to buy a lottery ticket wouldn't you?
I just googled Tencent bought Funcom for around 150 million dollars in 2020. Considering the state of their games in 2024, I'd say Funcom is now worth around 150 dollars. Who wants to crowd fund with me?
Even then.. the In-Game store isn't the Evil... its Insane prices. 90% of that Store should be under $5-8 dollars... That my only hold out.... Even when stuff is on "Sale" its still over-priced.
No reason give them money... none of it seems to be feed back into game.
The in game store and the FOMO battle pass *ARE* evil - it's predatory marketing.
Man, really wish I could. I'd definitely straighten things up.
The Funcom acquisition was $148 million USD back in 2020.
Tencent doesn't buy stuff without having a long term plan, and generally their main reason is to control how IPs are delivered and used inside of China. Several years have passed since the acquisition, my guess is you'd have to beat that price by quite a bit before Tencent would consider selling.
So ... let's say ... $160 million USD just to get the negotiations started, and you'll probably want another $20 million in reserve. And just to be on the safe side, I'd suggest having at least another $50-100 Million USD in reserve for operating expenses.
And we'll round up from there ... $300 million USD.
(and you know ... this is just a little "napkin math" here).

You're not buying it.
This.
They also own the IP for several other SF and Fantasy works out there. I do not recall the exact list or how much of each IP they own. For example, with Dune, they own the rights to produce games.
But, but, wait, hear me out! If at a certain point a Chinese inva... I mean, peaceful reunification with Taiwan happens, there is a high probability the evil Western imperialist powers will impose sanctions on poor innocent China. The same way they did with mother Russia after the special military operation.
In that scenario, both China and the evil West will not recognise each other's intellectual property rights. Which means that, theoretically, that we could seize Funcom's assets in Norway and make them change Bazaar prices!
In any case, I think we as a Conan Exiles community should start contingency planning in case geopolitical circumstances allow us to acquire Funcom and fix the game.
I want to participate with 20 dollars
then you could get an indie team to help you
Uhh... the works of Robert E. Howard are already in the Public Domain outside of the U.S.
There are a lot of derivative products that would still be covered by copyright, (movies, comic books, derivative works from other authors), but the original stuff? That's already free to use outside of the U.S. and due to be in the public domain inside the U.S. within 5 years.
