Side note - don't you think it's ridiculous that you can't just make a warm cloak, or warm clothing, out of all the animal hide and fur that you can obtain? I honestly can't believe this game still doesn't have something that basic coded in yet. Yeah, I know they want you to eat spicy food and build the high end armour that helps protect you from the temperature but isn't it ridiculous that a bite of spicy food helps more than having warm clothing or armour made out of fur? It's also beyond silly that drinking a bit of water can make you so cold you will die because of its magical "cooling" effect.
I think they need to take the warm/cool effects away from foods and add some actual warming/cooling clothing, cloaks, etc. that aren't too ridiculously hard to make.
The coldest areas are the bridge of the betrayer and inside the frost temple.
You will need spicy food to increase your cold resist inside the temple and for the bridge, you can run over, the other side is less cold.
Oh and dont drink normal water in cold areas ;-)
Mainly spicy foods and drinks well help a lot in surviving the bitter cold in some areas.
Carrying a fire torch will help stave off freezing (or at least slow it down).
Better if you can set down a camp fire and that will warm you up.
Eating berries will give you both nourishment and liquid without taking the risk of drinking water from the skin which can accelerate and worsen your condition.
As for Armors: There are some choices.
This is my personal recommendation:
There is one armor that is suitable to areas of extreme cold (especially if you have an interest in hanging out or making a living in very cold areas).
It's called: Pride of Aesir.
You get the recipe for it from a ghost located in the Mounds of the Dead after retrieving a collection of three items from enemies within the local area. You don't get any markers to guide you to the expected artifacts.
This armor can only be crafted in the Forge of the Frost temple. (Forge of Ymir).
Getting the items can be challenging (even suicidal),
Getting into the Forge is a challenge all its own.
Frost Needle Forest is one of those areas of extreme cold. Building even a simple T1
shelter will at least afford you some protection against the bitter cold. Having a torch and a camp fire handy can help you avoid freezing to death. There is also a couple of convenient cave nooks in a couple of spots that offer natural shelter. Be wary of hostile wildlife.
Side note:
Important to remember.
Frost Needle Forest is also on of the areas where star metal meteors will land. So choose your location wisely if you decide to build anything.
(hint: Build in the shade during the morning sunrise)
ALOT of cold resist on that thing!
