Treasure count only when you place them on the ground. after game restart, if you need a purge, you need to take all of them and put them back. and this is stupid. The game should remember them.
Also treasures put outside the coffer area despawn.

You can't simply put them down.

You MUST hold the treasure, left-click (to show where the cache limits are), then left-click again to place the treasure.

If you just drop it, it won't count and the treasure will eventually despawn.

What about coin piles and other treasures that count for the hoard but cannot be "carried" but only crafted directly into the area? I've had lots of those stop counting after a restart as well.

edit: I suspect that if you place something while in creative mode it will not count for the hoard after a restart. In my single player world I try to be good about not being in creative mode when adding to my treasure hoard, though sometimes I still see it stop counting things after a restart.
