Any mods to make pets not suck?
Every time I go travelling with a pet they end up getting mauled by whatever. Its starting to feel like an absolutely pointless feature. Any mod suggestions that make them better?

I only use greater pets for combat and spec 20 points in authority. Until they get to level 5 you should do the fighting and get them some vitality with the appropriate food. Stay away from boss fights with them until they hit at least level 15 unless you are using Well Trained. I prefer War Party for pets or thralls and get to level 2 at a time which is a huge advantage. Make sure they have a stack of food before you take them out since the food boxes never seem to work properly. I can do any fight in the game with the right pair of pets or a pet and a thrall. There's nothing wrong with pets if you raise and use them correctly.

So before they're any good I have to have a specific character build, use a specific category of pet, and do most of the fighting for them until they are an appropriate level?

That kind of thing should be what you need to do to get an amazing meta pet. If I want to casually keep a pet on me for travel they should be able to live more than five minutes without the right build. Currently, I see it as a useless feature that way.

Yeah, I don't keep pets for casual companions so I see your point. I'm not sure what to tell you for that situation.

They can be quite useful once you have a greater at level 20. I have a saver tooth on one character with 10,000 health and another one that hits with 436% melee bonus. The greater pets start out with enough health to fight and stay alive but I pamper them until they get some perk points just to be safe. A pair of cats (almost any kind) or a pair of bears is a good reliable tank combo that you don't have to gear up. I like rhinos for some bosses because they can push around a dragon as much as the dragon pushes them and none of my pets get knocked down during combat. I have my pets and horse move out to draw aggro and get a fight started. My horse has twice the health of anything I've seen to fight (27k health) so he doesn't get killed very easily.

theres a mod, as someone has already linked, but the modkit doesnt allow access to any DLC or Bazaar items. For me, personally, that sucks because I don't like having a normal looking animal go into battle and take damage and stuff it feels bad. In my mind the pets are magical so I really need the fancy skins on them to be able to use them lol

Instead, if you are admin or SP you can use the PiPi management mod that gives access to some tools you can use to manually balance out your pets. Unfortunately, you would need to do this every time you get a new individual pet - the changes are per actor, not global NPC changes. For my server, I plan on introducing a super expensive/limited in game token to get me to come and edit players' pets so that they perform like a sabretooth, but look and act like a wolf or whatever they wish. But..... its a lot to set up. All can be done in the PiPi mod in game, though!

PS: the main reasons I like pets is they are fairly accessible at the start of the game, have more carry slots, look awesome, and don't need fancy equipment to deal serious damage. They are very squishy so they need baby-sitting for the first 5 levels, and I wouldn't put them up against any bosses until lvl 10+ ish, depending on the pet and my playstyle/setup. I ALWAYS go authority build, but don't get access to the final perk until lvl 25 because i need 5 in expertise to be able to carry just the essentials. HINT: Hyenas are easy to acquire and level up fairly fast so they tend to survive the longest for me. Once I gain access to the midnight dungeon and shadebloom, I go for sabretooth because they are one of the few pets that still have decent stats for surviving a few good boss hits.

At the end of the day, Thralls will outperform pets every single time because Funcom hates pets and nerfed em. I didn't feel they were OP but I only play PVE. I feel that funcom are always very heavy handed with both buffing and nerfing. They really need to work on balance....

I don't have any of the addons. The only one I'd bother getting is Siptah but that's not till I'm done exiled lands. All the skins and stuff are unnecessary in my mind. And any variety can be filled by mods.
