purge question
tried a to do a purge, but go an error, no suitble place, what do they need, there is a large flat area, very close by, do i need to kill the mobs there first?

I've tried a few purges and it seems the better my defenses are the less likely the purge will happen. The route has to be simple, 1 - 2 gates or doors only, and a direct path from their camp to the chest. Try clearing any rocks, trees, bushes etc. in an area first then call 1-800-purge-me. It's never been worth my time as far as the risk vs the return but it's something to do.

Because I have collected so much gold, I get high-level purges. Yes, in one purge they did start to carry my treasure off. They are brutal at the least. You do get t3 and t4 thralls from their camp. Yes, they can spawn anywhere near your base that is flat including in boulders (once, it might have been changed). In two cases, they did spawn below the level of my base due to the locating of the base.

I don't put my gold in my treasure hoard or anywhere near the chest. Just the items labeled "treasure". I think I went as high as level 6 or 7 except for an experiment involving the green wall that was level 10 where I placed the chest outside the wall and then the purge spawned outside the wall as well and took everything without a fight. I really miss the old purges when you didn't know what would be coming or when exactly. It had bugs but no more than the new purge system.

Since my last post in this thread, I figured out why one of the purges were failing at a certain location in the middle of battle. It wasn't a door problem. We discovered several enemies were taking a stupid path and getting stuck up on a hill just looking down at where the treasure building was. There were a good 2 dozen or more of them just standing there. Once enough of them gathered and couldn't figure out what to do, I guess they just give up and the purge fails

I'd say like 65%-70% of the enemies took that stupid path, while the rest went in the correct direction. Once we noticed this, killing them quick enough before their AI fails too much continued the purge to it's end

We've decided to move the treasure spot to a different location. We are just testing with level 1 purges and spawn locations, so not setting up some big fancy treasure room just yet till we find a spot we're happy with

The one thing that has consistently surprised me as how fast they can break down a black ice reinforced gate like it's made of wet paper

I used some hedges to kinda funnel the purge right to my gate and it's worked pretty well so far. With the old purge system I tried to keep them away from the gates and now I try to get them to go there. The gates do come down so fast we might as well leave them open and save on repairs. I was experimenting on the beta server and the battering ram can take a gate down faster that a siege engine but you take a beating using it.

If your treasurer is facing a cliff wall or an ocean it will fail to place

I have gotten that error with none of those reasons being true when it had worked previously. The purge will try to spawn in multiple locations. It will fail if it does not choose one that has the space. It even spawned with one of the prisoner cages in a large bolder.

for it to trigger a successful spawning of purge
1. the coffer has to be place at an open field unobstructed 80x80 grid (about)
2. do not place your coffer on an elevated position or construct ceiling above it.
3. limit the no. of doors/gates to 1 no. (for some reason doors and gate will bug out the AI)
4. limit the size of your "base".( the bigger and elaborate the base is the buggier it gets)
5. always try testing step 3 &4 until the purge works for maximum effectiveness.
6. if all steps fail, build a linewall with coffer at the end of wall

7. launch purge when not to much people are connected (less than 10) : the purge will start at the first try because pathfiding of ennemies will be easier to calculate.
=> I suspect that public servers are undersized (just look at how ennemies and your thralls or horses usually behave when there are more than 20 connected people...)

Points 1-4 are wrong.

The people farming lvl-X purges are cheesing it. Its alot of mobs, but they dont have any losses because of the way the base is built. The npc's will stop, and if they cant reach the soldier they are trying to attack they will just stand there and block the others trying to run forward...its a log-jam, and quite boring really. Might be worth the time if there was some decent loot.

My archers have been going through 300 arrows for a level IX and X purge. I have lost over 30 thralls in those purges.

I did a few this morning just to try it out before I did a new start with the new scoreboard.

I had a 20x20 box shape build, 1-2 tiles off the floor (depending on the terrain, with 1 door in the middle of each wall and the walls 4 high. It had a flat roof with just a straight internal stairs. Half of it has a second floor 2 walls high. It was made of sandstone.
The treasury was on the main floor, between 1 and 2 tiles off the floor depending on the terrain underneath. the base had a 1 high stairs leading to each door.
Tier 1 purge.
1st try - the camp spawned about 10 feet from my base, I had 2 level 20 thugras in cimmerian epic armour that the camp spawned on top of, both were rushed and killed instantly, as I moved towards the camp I got a message saying I had no loot left to steal, purge over, my treasury had not been touched.
2nd try - the camped spawned about 50 feet away, I managed to get some thralls in that direction, it was the complete opposite side to the last one, went towards the camp and got a message that the commander was ready to fight, I moved towards the camp and got a win message, no commander, no commander body to loot, purge over but I got 1 unlocked chest full of trash, 1 locked chest and there was a locked cage, but no keys.
3rd try - the camp spawned 500 yards away, waves of mobs came at me, mainly trash with the odd 1 skull. 3 demolishers appeared inside my base (they did not go past me) and started removing the floor tiles. Killed everything, got the message the enemy commander wanted to fight, killed him, got 3 keys. Had 1 unlocked chest of trash, 1 locked chest of trash, 1 cage with a t2 dancer that had 2xx hp and a named mitra performer, the one from the Sinners Refuge.

So my treasury was in an enclosed walled base with doors, 1-2 tiles off the floor, and the purge happened each time. 1 they won for no reason, 1 I won for no reason and with no commander keys and 1 that worked properly with loot.

Read into that what you will.

The peaceable treasures can block pathing aswell so be very careful where you put them. Purge was working just fine back to back then I placed down a snake man statue treasure in the corner of the room and it immediately stopped working. Returned it to my inventory and it went back to normal

The trick to cheesing the purge is making a corridor 1 block wide that they all have to run thru to get to the coffer. Make the corridor go back and forth like a maze instead of directly going to the coffer. Your defenders must not be able to move from the spot you place them. (they will want to charge at the 1st enemy they see).
The purge npcs will try to fight the 1st defender they come into proximity with, but when they are unable to hit them (because of the way you placed them inside the wall).
They will stand there, aggro'd to a target they cant reach.
This blocks the rest of the purge npc's who are running up to attack, and they cant pass, they stop and just stand around.
It still takes awhile to kill them all, about 10 minutes maybe?
