Pets got nerfed hard many months ago. It was part of the combat revamp. As a rule of thumb, stuff hits harder and can take less damage.
Regular combat thralls can be still good if you have authority stat, but pets are just bad.
You can combine this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2566191068
with this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2690269364
The first one buffs stats for pets (not thralls).
The second one is optional, if you want to change how you level up pets (and thralls). Each time they level up, you get to pick what stat to put points in, like your own character and like most RPG games do it.
There's also an option to buy perks manually.
I play with both and it works great!
