How to get "shiny" thralls and pets?

For example I have heard of black yeti's but my question is how do you capture or own one of those GIANT crocodiles? You know the "shiny" (pokemon term) versions of each animal/thrall.

Animals have a chance to be tamed into a more powerful version. So a crocodile hatchling has a greater chance to tame into a normal crocodile, or a smaller chance to tame into a Greater Crocodile. The food you use to tame an animal determines the exact percentages. With standard meat, Exquisite Meat has the largest (20%) chance to turn it into a Greater Crocodile. Shadespiced Perfect Cut of Meat has the greatest chance (30%)

Forget black yetis, or any type of apes, they all suck, go for sand reaper queens using putrid meat or human meat to get a 10 percent chance of success, or greater bear, sabretooth,

Thanks for the tip, shame they suck, they sound cool. Reaer Queens sound cool too though. I got my first Greater Hyena. Eventually I'll have more greater versions of animals.

Forget pets that cripple in PVE, its useless, go for pets that inflict, bleed, poison, sunder or toss human npcs like chicken wings on a bowl, Basically Greater Bear, Greater Rocknose, Greater Sabretooth, Greater Komodo, Frost Giant, Mammoths, Greater Wolf

Skip Hyenas altogether, go for any kind of Felines, tigers, jaguars, sabretooth, and wolves

Does anyone know if you put something large like a croc or bear in a small taming pen with shadespiced food, does it still have a chance to become a greater version or do you need the master taming teir pen?

The type of pen has no effect on the results of your tame. Higher tier pens tame faster and have more HP. (the building not the pet)

The small pen is just large enough to hold a tamed elephant.
