NPC Respawn Multiplier?
It's my first time hosting a dedicated multiplayer server and I'm trying to make it so NPCs spawn FASTER. I did some reading and discovered that changing the NPC Respawn Multiplier value to something lower (I changed it from 1.0 to 0.1) would make them spawn quicker. But after I killed Freya and the NPCs there at Freya's Hovel, it took them long to respawn as if the settings were ignored. It felt like the default 15 mins. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to restart the server? Should I manually edit the server's config file as opposed to the in-game server settings?

increasing it will make then spawn faster, not decreasing it

the setting tooltips are quite frankly horrendous i thought increasing the multiplier for crafting would make it faster but for crafting it's faster the lower the value.

Wait really? Huh. Everybody online says a lower multiplier makes NPCs spawn faster. Other settings becomes faster when the multiplier is increased except for NPCs apparently. Idk I'm so confused XD

Wrong. The NPC spawn setting lower is faster, it is a multiplier. Default it is 16 mins, if you increase the multiplier then it would be longer to spawn. If you want faster then you need lower the multiplier.

that can't be the case because i have it at max i kill an NPC leave for maybe a minute and they're back if i do it the other way they don't.

I just checked to make sure and yep, it's set to 10.

I think "respawn rate multiplier" refers to the rate they fill their respawn meter, not the target value, so indeed a lower number would decrease the rate, thus taking longer, while a higher number would increase the rate, making it faster. That would mean, at a rate of 1 it would take 15min to fill the respawn meter, on other rates it would take longer or shorter, but the value for max meter would always be the same.

No Willow Rivers is right. I figured out my problem eventually. My settings weren't being saved in the config file when I changed stuff via IN-GAME server panel for some reason. I had to manually open, edit, and save the config file for the changes to take effect. It's at 0.1 now and the NPCs spawn in roughly a minute. Dunno what happened really. Probably a permission/writing error.

You probably play single-player in which case that value doesn't matter at all for you... as soon as you leave the area and come back, everything respawns regardless of that setting.

That's because the setting only takes affect from the next spawn onwards. NPCs already spawned will ignore any change to that setting and operate based on whatever it was set to when they were spawned. Once you kill that and wait for the respawn, the next one you kill will respect the new setting.

Good to know. Thanks! I'd just like to add, for anyone also having this issue, make sure your server config file isn't set to read-only. Mine was for some reason hence why the changes weren't being made even though I thought they were. Weird

I had trouble with this too. GPortal settings say one thing, and the game server settings say another thing. “Speed multiplier” should mean the higher the number, the faster the respawn. This seems totally backwards as it stands.

Even a dedicated private server?

No when you log off the server keeps running. SIngle player when you log off server shuts down and when you log in starts up resetting everything, that doesn't happen on a dedicated as it keeps running so things will not reset by loggingout.

That's what i'm on though. i have a server PC that runs 24/7 (with occasionally turn offs)

If you are running a dedicated server just for yourself, you should probably just switch to single player. You can still adjust the settings to your liking, and stuff like crafting times or thrull conversion rate can be adjusted to fit your personal gaming times, no need anymore for server based offline crafting.
