Improved Armorer's Bench: Two different sets of the same thing?
Greetings All !

My friends and I are just starting to build our second base (if you don't count the initial starter one we made by the river). Both bases have an Improved Armorer bench with the exact same named Armorer thrall in both of them.

But in the first base's bench, I can look at... say... Guardian Armor and Dark Templar Armor (both from a DLC, I believe)... and I can see/build TWO different sets of each: One set requires higher-level components such as Perfected Heavy Padding... while the other set requires just Heavy Padding. Armor values between the sets are different, but they look alike.

Now, at base #2, I see only ONE such set, the "more expensive" one. And I'm trying to figure out why?

Sounds like the second one is the more advanced master-tier bench. They only allow the creation of the higher-level stuff. Aka "Garrison" bench and its counterpart.

That would be my guess as well. That second bench is probably a grandmaster version rather than the improved one.

Well, the guy who built both benches says they're the same thing. We don't have hardened steel yet... and he thinks the Garrison requires hardened.

The Garrison BLACKSMITH bench requires hardened. The Garrison armorer's does not. I'm at the same spot in my tech progression right now, and I have the Garrison armorer's bench.

Well, they very much are not.

The improved bench is literally just an improved version of the basic bench. It provides +50% crafting speed and -25% material cost.

The garrison bench is one of the two grandmaster tier benches. It provides no crafting speed increase, but reduces material cost by 50%. It also does not have the basic recipes, only the epic versions. Probably because by the time you're using it you're generally not wanting to use the basic stuff.

FYI, the other grandmaster bench, the campaign bench, gives you +200% crafting speed, but no cost reduction.

When I said that both benches were the same thing, I was referring to the two benches that my friend had BUILT. He had told me that they BOTH were improved armor benches. However, I just checked at our second location and that one does indeed say Garrison on it. So, I have to let him know that he was wrong and the fact that this bench won't allow us to make lower-tier stuff. Thank you.
