I assuming this doesn't actually effect progressing the game i've seen negative reviews about this?

That assumption would be correct. DLC provides no bonus other than looks or styles. Bazaar fall into the same line. Battle Pass from what I can tell is about the same. For the negativity centers around the fact the DLC packs contain a lot more items for at greatly reduced cost when compared with today's approach. I have no problem in supporting a game I like as long as it is within reason. Their approach in regards to in game purchases designed to provide the least amount of electrons for the most amount of money.
