Do you have Less Building Placement Restrictions mod installed? I am wondering if it's causing that problem
If I had to guess, I'd say maybe the golems are positioned in the UI just ever so slightly under the mesh, so it thinks the ground you're placing him on is invalid.

No mods
No error messages
Single player, mostly default settings, no mods. It happens with iron and stone golems (can't test with crystalline without cheating because I've never found enough parts to completely build one.) I do not have "less building placement restrictions" enabled, and also do not have "ignore stability" enabled. So any building restrictions should be essentially vanilla, barring some weird interaction with x2 resource harvesting and slightly *increasing* the default respawn timers.
The error isn't that the golem is clipping anything - the error for me is that they just are NOT placeable on any constructed floor, foundation or ceiling. And will only barely tolerate being placed on bare flat ground, even if nothing is near them at all. It feels like something is screwed up with the collision box for them when they're in "placeable" mode. Of course, it feels like their hitbox is kind of screwed up just in general - depending on what weapon they're built with, they seem completely unable to attack "reptile" enemies like snakes and crocodiles.
