New player planning to use necromancy
Hello! I am planning to download the game, and during my research of the game I learned necromancy was a thing in the game. How do you start doing it? I know im asking early, but necromancy is my kind of thing in most games.

you need to keep upgrading your tome of kurak to the point where you learn shallow grave placeable, simply knock out any fighter thrall, and drag it to the grave, and summon a corpse thats already levelled 20

You also need to be not overencumbered when your doing so. This zombie thrall is permanent, unlike the call of the dead spell where you summon a bunch of weak zombies that die eventually as soon as the fog dissipates.

You will be able to summon Zombies in several ways. (directly with a spell, or more pemanent ones with a ritual.) There used to be witchcraft to get skelletons, but since Age of sorcery this isn't possible without mods anymore...

You need to learn sorcery and defintily need to work for the necromancy-spells! (and all others.)
I suggest to activate the "sorcery" Journey and follow its steps. This will get to teach you the sorcery.
Careful, though: Sorcery is dangerours and deep black in this game! (but very useful imho.) and it isn't very combat-friendly. The spells take relative long to cast, so they're realy not suited for the middle of combat! (except you're prepared so you won't get attacked.)

There are at least two mods, which I use: "better sorcery" (may have some problems, but still works in most cases) and "sorcery tweaks" which will make tweaks of spells available and add new ones like night vision and water breathing.. Important: Load the sorcery twaks AFTER better sorcery. (then the broken "better sorcery" spells will work again.)

Hm. I wonder if there is a mod, which will make a firebolt (or iicebolt)-spell avaialble. Not great combat, Casted like the others. I think it should function like the position-light-spell, but just with damage. (ice and/or fire.)
The "sorcery tweaks" makes it possible to fast-cast eventually. But I think this kills immersion. I find the implmented casting just very spectacular, so I don't use the fast cast option of the mod. (Normally, you summon rune-stones, and choose them for your castings, along with selecting deeper corruption-spels, if necessary. This is the main reason, why casting isn't suitable for middle-combat in most cases.)

BTW: Demonolgiy will also be there. You can summon one by a ritual, or have them, if you skill a special perk. (But this is a decision, you should carefully think about. I myself think, it's very cool. But to funciton probably, it will replace your normal fighter-companions eventually.)
Careful with the demonic ritual: Demons are not very pleased of slavery. And if they don't get victims constanty. YOU will be their victim eventually...
The perk-demons aren't so dangerous, but considered enemies by your thralls... (and they will make taking more thralls more problmatic, since they will attack all, what Isn't unconsous or dead... They're summoned randomly, if you make damage in any way, including conussive damage...)

There are imho very easy ways to reset your attributes (and therefore perks), so the perk-decisions you make aren't necessarily permanent. Luckily resetting attributes and resetting knoledge is seperated now. (it used to be combined. so you needed to select your knowledge everytime you wanted to reset your attributes, which made that a chore imho.)

one last thing, which I take into a spoiler because I think this is something, you should find out yourself:

You will get "corrupted" by casting and especially by using some rituals. Corruption will reduce stamina and life, but you will need at least 40% corruption (50 is max) to cast all spells. Corruption is healed, if you get an enterainter-thrall. But you will be able get permanently corrupted. This needs a special resource, which you get through a special sacrifice-ritual.
You only can sacrifce humanoids! Animals aren't available for this. This ritual can be done without corruption, but will get you 50% corrupted instantly and provide you 5 of the resources needed, so you can set one currupton-perk per ritual. (you will get a perk every 5 points spent for attributes. with a choosing at 10 and 20 points spent.)

If you corrupt an attribute-line, however, you will get a special corruption-perk which will replace the normal one. You need 20 currption points spent to get permantly 40% corrupted. 60 are possible, But you only can corrupt strength, vitality and auithority. and you only can corrupt attritbutes already skilled normal and only until you reach the normal end.
Since you normally only have 60 points to spend for attributes, you will need to min/max if you want all curruption-perks... The combat-demons are availble with 20 corrupted authority. (replacing the better fighter-companions or war party.) Most players choose 19 corrupted authority, so they will keep the normal level 20-perk... But if you play SP and go solo with your mount and a carrier-thrall (be it a carrier-animal or a berer) the demons aren't that bad imho. You can set your carrier to attack nothing. (you can't set it to flee, however...) So your demons will attack the enemies and your (carrier)pet won't attack the demons. The perk-demons are considererd enemy (even by you) but won't attack you or your companions. and vanish after 20 seconds...

if you reset your attributes, you also reset the permanent corruption (and will be able to be healed again with an entertainer.) Which means, you will need to reskill corruption. and redo the according rituals to get the resources needed.

I recommend the following mods:
- level cap 80
- mod-panel
- better sorcery.
- sorcery tweaks

(in that load-order)

The mod panel makes it availble to set several options for your spells (of the mod sorcery-tweaks) and get the addtional spells automatically. (in the other case, you need to get them through admin-rights.)

I use some more, but those four are essential imho. I find 60 attribute-points just too less. (this is my only reason for level 80.)

You need admin-mode to make the tweaks for spells. (e. g. to activate the mod-panel and be able to use it probably.)
Sadly, you need to restart the game, to get rid of the number for items which appears in admin-mode. Even if you deactivate it again through the settings.

Edit: Btw: "better sorcery" is only for the paraphelia you need for spells. They will get much lighter, and all paraphelia will need the same resources to make. If you you don't want that, you can do without that mod.
