The optimal strategy is to find a couple weapons you like in the stone or iron age and learn only those as you level. Don't try and learn most decorations until level 60.
Your friend can reset his feats drinking a yellow lotus or natural learning potion.
Thank you very much for the explanation!

There is a limit to how many attribute points, and by extension perks you can get.
However you can learn all recipes (I think this is what you mean by feats?), because you can get more feat points by consuming fragments of power which some of the endgame bosses (particularly unnamed city bosses) drop. There is no limit to how many of these you can collect, although you need to be strong enough to handle endgame enemies.
Most of the weapon/armor recipes are just cosmetic variants, there is little difference between them in terms of stats. What matters more is the type of item and what the item made out of. Better material = considerably better item. Especially in terms of tools which I recommend you max out as soon as you can.
Stone -> Iron -> steel -> hardened steel -> Star metal
(Obsidian is kinda pointless iirc)
(on Siptah there is eldarium I guess? Im not familiar with Siptah)
Style of weapon also gives you different combat animations and effects. Find one that you like.
Also: Dont sleep out on thralls. Get good quality crafter thralls for your crafting stations by breaking them on the wheel of pain. The thralls will turboboost your production by considerably lessening the time it takes to craft stuff, and in some cases the quality of the item. In particular armorer thrall will also improve your armor a lot. Some named crafter thralls will also grant you new recipes not available otherwise.
This game has a MASSIVE amount of hidden knowledge that helps you a lot if you know it. It certainly doesnt hold your hand. Speak with players, ask for tips.
(Its very thematic that the knowledge how to craft basic steel was a secret that you just had to know or experiment until you find it. The game didnt tell you, although Im not sure if the upcoming journey system change will change this.
