go into tab menu, and 'knowledge' and learn a basic weapon. sword/mace/hammer, etc. (i prefer hammer.)
now when attacking targets, you can only fight the little imps, or the small turtle beasts, (not the big brown ones). stop attacking when your stamina is half way, and just circle the target. if it gets the better of you, go swimming to escape. pick up grubs and eat insects to gain some small health back till you can make your first kill
dodging eats your stamina, dont do that unless you really need to. figure out which weapon suits you best. dont finish a full combo, stay light on your feet, one or two strikes at a time.
if you see a silver shine in the enemy's eyes, it is a deadly corrupted beast, and will probably kill you in one shot. avoid those.
fashion a set of stone tools and use those to gather from that point on.
use plant fiber to make twine after you make a set of clothing, you're going to need a lot of it, and its light weight.
from this point, learn basic masonry, and basic survival skills (firepit/forging/etc) and start to build a base out of whatever crap is scattered around. use that to store materials and rank up to fight larger opponents, and capture strong thralls to use for further advancing your territory.
if you're losing to the hyenas (cause there are PILES of them) you need a weapon that can hit multiple opponents, like greatsword or hammer, and you have to be good with your combos. be careful because corrupt hyenas can mix into regular packs and really kill the crap out of you. use bows if you have to, to thin them out before engaging melee.
I just wanted to reiterate don't stand there and fight it out with everything.
You can run faster than pretty much anything in the game. When I started a new character after my server went under, I didn't die for the first week. I just took off and ran when attacked. Don't wait until your stamina is at zero before you run!
Eat the eggs from the nests, insects, and whatever is easy to get.
On the first day, you need to make a complete set of tools, a Stone Ax, Sword, Pick, and Sickle, a complete set of clothes, and foremost a water bottle, it wouldn't hurt to make two.
But above all, only attack things that you can kill easily.
Most things won't follow you into the water so I stay near the river for a while, if something big comes after you run for the river.
As soon as you have your tools and make a construction hammer and make a small temporary shelter.
And note that most things aren't good climbers. You can make a small block of stone foundations and stand on it and nothing can get to you. When you get a bow you can attack from a raised positron.
Then just work your way up the food chain.
But above all remember it's better to run and try aging than keep getting killed over and over so watch your health bar and keep collecting those eggs, and bugs.
Oh, and as soon as possible make a mat and place it in a safe place so that if you do die it doesn't set you back out in the desert again.
Make your way to the north side of the river and build a small hut with a fire, box and bed. Go exploring to find a good spot for a real base. Put a mat down when you reach a new area so you won't have a long run to when you die. Look a centrally located spot near water and lots of iron.
HP is important. Put 5 points into vitality so your hp will regenerate with out eating. Make aloe potions and healing wraps.
You can also run into the water then run out and hit them again until you level up some.
It will teach you the basics way better than asking a lot of questions you don't even know yet you have.
I tried to be cautious - so only fought things when I needed to, gathered stone/branches/planet fibre etc and built the starting crafting gear.
Actually I just tried to follow the Journey things that appear in the top right. When it said "sleep in a bed" I figured I should try to start making a base (you have to spend your points in the "Knowledge" tab for that (among other useful things).
And... the spot I chose for my base is where I still am, although I have ventured out further and made a start on a second base near the jungle.
Im guessing most people choose the same spot I did - it's a little island nearby the 2 statues.
Oh - 2 things that really saved me:
1) Things dont follow you into the water
2) Things dont climb up after you
Keep in mind that Conan Exiles is not a game to be rushed through. Take your time and appreciate the beauty of the world as you build and progress through the game. By prioritizing survival and gradually increasing your proficiency, you can fully immerse yourself in the rich and intricate world of Conan Exiles.
Tip 2: Don't limit yourself to one location if you're playing single player/coop w/ friends (which I generally recommend). Areas rich with necessary resources such as iron tend to not be terribly close to one another, so at least build yourself a small network of outposts where you can shelter for a storm.
Tip 3: The game is designed around multiple people consistently working together. There's no real shame in modifying the server settings to be more single-player friendly, such as increasing resource yields, reducing crafting costs, or your own tankiness. Tune the game to your level and work your way back up to stock-standard once you have a better feel for things.
Tip 4: A lot of areas are difficult to navigate due to cliffs, so it can be worthwhile to invest in building your own shortcuts using elevators or bridges to avoid long detours.
Tip 5: Crafting workbenches work on their own. It's a VERY good idea to have several smelters and blacksmiths operating simultaneously to crank out all those stupid 'nails' you need for higher tier buildings.
Tip 6: Remember, you serve your slaves, not the other way around. Always invest in the highest tier of tools you can, and tame a pack animal to tow your resource hauls back to base.
Tip 7: Archer thralls are crap and achieve nothing. They get free ammo, and their damage is proportional to the cost (aka, none). Always be taming animals/thralls. At first, anyone will do, but once you've got some workers and guards, start thinking about bagging named thralls. Then start being racist and realize the south river thralls have trash stats and start capturing guys from as far north as your named thrall can KO, even if they are tier 1.
Tip 8: Don't underestimate what you can kill with a stone two-handed sword.
