Generally I tend to not bother with agility on pets for that reason.
But is there any in-game tooltip that says so and I can't see it? Or is this community-based knowledge, gained through datamining or extensive testing done by some members?
From the information I have, it is from data mining in the Dev kit from some of the community members. There are hidden modifiers on pets and thralls that are not shown in the interface the players can bring up on them in the radial menu.
The information they released applied to "Pets" and did not specify the type. They mentioned that Scorpions will be getting a boost, there is something about them being too weak.

If you open that spreadsheet you can look up the thrall you're interested in by simply searching with ctrl+F and there are notes in the header that explain what is what if you hover on the columns.
Pets are not listed here since things are very different for them and since they have "built-in weapons" with varying damage, none of that would mean anything anyway as you couldn't objectively compare one to the other.
