Is Thrall pot necessary in single player?
Is Thrall pot and by same token animal feeding own necessary in single player since time stopped when logged out and during purges you want food in your thralls/pet inventory for healing

I see my thralls take food out of my pots in SP even if they're not healing so I'd assume yes. It's easy to just fill it with gruel.

Since 3.0, they dont seem to eat much. They get stuff out and then it spoils in their inventory as well as what ever is left in the pot. Granted they didnt always eat it all before, but it seems like a waste of time to fill them now...I'm just running over with food since the battle pass "kill 10 more yada yada...".

Thralls do not need to eat to survive, unless of course they are taking a lot of damage.

In 3.0 they changed thrall behavior so they only eat if they need to heal after taking damage. Still the thrall pot is really only needed during purges and even then it is better to put a supply of food directly in their inventory if you are about to experience a tough purge.

They will still take food out of the pot even if they dont need to heal.

Then stop putting food in the pot.

No they do not! At least not after 3.0

Healing from food varies, food isn't just food.
Honey heals thralls for 1 hp/s while gruel heals them for 6 hp/s and enhanced gruel 9 hp/s

It's not necessary in any mode as long as you supply your thralls with food directly for when they need it so they can heal up when fighting. Their hunger system isn't enabled by default so they're not going to die without food no matter what.
Thrall pots are really only useful when you got a LOT of thralls and they're in a vulnerable "out in the open" situation and there's too many of them for you to conveniently go around and give them a stack or two of food each. So it's really situational, it doesn't give you any benefits aside from having one central point to put food in instead of the inventories of your thralls directly and a slightly reduced spoil rate, as such it's really up to you if you need it or not.

One thing people seem to forget, even if you don't need to actively feed thralls, the thrall pot still slows the decay rate of anything placed inside it, can be useful for storing raw meat or cooked food in bulk until you unlock the preservation box.

Can also be used to slow the decay of baby animals if your stable or animal pen is full.

Im sitting here watching my thralls take food from the pot. Ive got about 50 archers and theyve all got food from the pot in their inventory. None of them have taken any damage and they just sit around all day, eating food from the pot.

In that case you either have the thrall hunger system enabled through the config file / a mod that breaks it or a pirated / not updated copy of the game, because it was changed after 3.0, it was in the patch notes and I tried it myself too, I have a thrall pot in the attic full of food and it hasn't been touched since none of the thralls took damage.
