You can kill some bosses that drop keys.
I beileve the best two hander in the game has like 91 dmg. Now I can craft weapon with 70 dmg 25% penetration. I feels relativelly easy to kill anything in the game.
Like for authority not sure on paint there is potion something tears you can make, there is armor that increases thrall damage, if you got fishing traps but grubs or queens in there to try and get dogfish cooked dogfish is another minion damage buff. You can look around find stuff for the other stats/builds to. Oh and you thrall can drink potions to give them some might potions hit F while looking at them in their inventory to have them dink that.
There is a lot of options. But right only meta I know well is the authority ones wich if you go all in is pretty damn sweet lol.
Hardened steel isn't hard, find interavtive map fro you map. Either siptah or basic find the spots on map and creep around. Normally near dungeon entrances at least on siptah you can find tons of black ice needed to make hardened steel, even some brimestone around them as well.
Options are get better at combat, like big thing is timing, like using thrall set up, I still atack but I know when to run away from things that do AOE attacks when to roll to avoid most the damage etc etc. Half this game that confuses people is its not WoW or Ark where you just face tank everything. Sometimes you got dodge attacks or block with a shield but some attacks break shield blocks and you got know which ones do that too to know "oh he has 2h mace I got roll from that he just smash threw it!"
Do that and you surivive way more therefor stay in fight longer. DPS is one major thing, but staying alive is big deal in itself I seen some crazy glass cannon builds where you can do insane damage. BUT you got know every fight, when to roll and when to not or you die stupid fast lol
Its why I like authority My thrall is a weak t4 I got out of a newbie camp near new player spawn. She has over 4k hp with the +20 to stats and not even max level anything short of a 3 skull boss she can face tank it for me all I got do is hit it in the butt and know when its gonna do aoe moves as most mini bosses got one move that will hit people behind and in front, so I can roll for less damage or use a super armor move to eat it. Just when to back up and chug an aloe extract. Its why I love authority build now I can just take my time its only crazy when I am hiting more then one thing, and she can't hold everything well with her 1h mace I gave her so she will block between combos lol
Also really good with bows if you don't mind carring tons of arrows in fact on of the no p2w armors you get from sorcery the cultist one needs level 60 to make the silk stuff for it, does agilty damage, and companion damage increase, but its light armor. So you got roll around a ton, or just use a damn bow. Or both most people going that route got daggers for melee and a nice bow for most the time.
Also, another way to deal more damage can be said in 2 words. Armor penetration. Or just take daggers and bleed them out.
And yes, authority seems to be the most important stat. I chose the “well trained” perk, not 2 followers. And I make sure my thrall has food on him. I prefer exotic feast. With this feast in their inventory thralls don’t lose health even after being severely nerfed in 3.0. Without food they lose HP real fast.
most of the good gear that you get is from feats and bosses, so you need to kill a lot of things to get stronger. and if you feel weak, remember you have chosen to live in a mid tier zone. go down to the southern river and kill some fresh exiles, youll butcher through them like they are ants.
If you capture a Tier 4 armorer (the ones with unique names) and put it in your armor bench, then the bonus will be 5% for each piece instead of 3%. That's already 25% damage increase with the weapon types of your choice. If you actually go the strength route, then I recomment one handed war-axes as they're one of the best weapons for PvE. Their heavy hits stagger NPCs even now and the heavy combo results in an AoE knockdown of everyone around you so you can just regen a few ticks of stamina.. rinse and repeat.
It all depends on play style TBH. I find it super boring to have my thralls do teh lifting and with their 50% damage nerf they smack like wet noodles even if you fully invest into them. The build I currently am using does utilize thralls in the form of 10K HP bearers so I don;t have to carry so much, but I hit for 168 dmg per swing with a 1 handed axe and 222 with my hammer of crom 2 hander. Anything under a cimmerianian tier thrall in the wild just gets 1 or 2 shotted. If I sent thralls in to do the same it would take 2 of them to kill a single dude even geared out in the absolute best str gear I have access to, making them basically meat shields and portable storage boxes. Your top priority should be to obtain a named temperwright, scoutwright and a tempersmith in order to craft yourself some epic tier gear.
Also in the Den and Desertwatch encampments directly south of new asgarth you will find a total of 4 bearer thralls. KILL THEM in mass as each bearer cache that drops will give you a entire stack of materials based on their tier. This is far more effective than actually farming mats as if you have a stack mod installed this can provide 500-50000 depending on stack mod of 1 material and 250-25000 is a second material. You will also pick up a fair amount of iron and steel in the process from the corpses of other enemies that are around them. Once you have stocked up the first run of bearers go to the east of new asgarth passed the Norther Aquaducts and get yourself some horses so you can run to skyfall ridge to get your self some black ice to make hardened steel and make a dismantling bench and kill off nordheimers in the city and smaller surrounding encampments while you wait for those 4 bearers to respawn.
