If that is too expensive for you to craft you can also opt to get the sword from the undead miniboss ontop of the Aquaduct or try to be lucky and get a Solspeil from legendary boxes.
Be nice if the buffs lasted longer then 10 seconds.

The symbols are buggy on some pieces, and it's been an issue for a while. You pretty much have to wear whatever armour you think will be good and check your totals.
I know the Vanir armour sets are bugged (because of course the armour that's obviously meant for cold isn't working properly - thanks Funcom), the light and medium have reversed hot/cold resist. Go with the heavy set. The corsair garb is good, I've used that a bit, but there are other suits that are even better. Check the wiki.
One trick is wield a torch as it warms you up a notch, and bring spicy foods for the really cold areas. I generally don't have to do more than carry a torch in my not-so-good armour, and in my current set I don't need the torch or warm food for any location.
