Conan Exiles
Games Like Conan Exiles?
Greetings,

I am currently crawing for a vast 3rd person fantasy survival rpg with great building mechanics and an open world with alot of content to explore. I was thinking about that and came to the conclusion that I don´t know a game that is like conan exiles. Valheim has barely any content and is not finished. Ark is not "fantasy" but with dinos and very much reliable on multiplayer. Rust is a PvP game, 7DTD with zombies and just looks very poor, not to talk about those dozens of survival games that try to be realistic. Is there anything that comes to your mind that is barely the same as Conan Exiles?

Atlas.. if you don't mind the poor performance, devs constantly breaking things and a toxic community; it's worth checking out.
Hmmm a lot of different games come to mind depending on what you want... but conan is conan no other game will be exact. None of these are conan but all offer building but are not 3rd person (altough some can be played in 3rd person) I'll list them so you can do your own deeper dive into each (I'll exclude atlas as it was mentioned.)

Citadel forged with fire is fantasy the whole system is around spells though and has building in it but I never really came to like the game ultimately but might be worth a look for you.

Space engineers doesnt offer the greatest combat solo without mods but it's quite explorative on the imagination and build your own anything front, closer to realistic then fantasy. A very technical game though it's a learning curve that takes time.

Empyreon I hear is good, it's got building and some fantasy but I have personally only played a little of the game but also build your own mechanics its lighter on the realism and probably more solo friendly then space engineers if that's your thing in the end.

V rising is a game where you play a vampire, its top down though not 3rd person got good combat and some base building, I enjoyed it for the most part not a 3d plane building though but does have base building because its top down it's more 2d....

An honorable mention but isn't what you described looking for is raft, where you build a boat and take it to the resources rather then running around yourself and offers creativity of design, but I have heard some find it more unpleasant solo a game like raft but different is also stranded deep.
If you are not into pvp and like interesting spin offs..........There are some very specific Rust servers that offer alternative ways to play the game. The "Rust Empire" server has been a mainstay for me for years. Kill on sight is disallowed. There is pvp ONLY at the monuments ( it uses pvp domes and you are safe until you go into these areas ). The focus is on building, pve, and developing an economy. It is an interesting deviation from the normal server. There are others that offer different themes like this but this was the best I found.

Ark is single player as well.
Ark is defnitely very close to Conan. You even have practically the same type of single player server settings. It has a building system and also has way more maps to play on.

But yeah dinosaurs. I'm not fond of dinosaurs myself either. You could play the crystal isles map in Ark for the fantasy creatures. Or the Ragnarok or the new Fjordur map to get that viking feel. There's mods like eco's empires that has viking skins and prefab houses.

It's not the dinos so much for me (those actually look good or at least ok) as the rest of the game is utter trash tier, not to mention the jarring technology later in the game.

But yeah, tried ARK several times, it just turns me off with the convoluted UI and mechanics, building stuff isn't fun at all, constant inventory management because a bush gives 5 different berries yet you want fibres (exaggerated for effect), and the characters look, like, PS2 level bad (again exaggerated for effect).

No Man's Sky is actually good now I'm told (even though I can't get into it - something rubs we wrong each time I try and then give up after a couple of hours, but that's purely me), and yeah it's not fantasy but looks fine and you can build quite the sprawling bases.

7D2D doesn't look that bad nowadays, but yes there's this undeniably Minecraft-y blocky feel to everything (and the toons look worse than in ARK, yet the vendors look like higher tier paid Poser or Daz3D models - it's quite jarring).
Gameplay is weird though and it's definitely an aquired taste - not to mention the perpetual "Early Access" thing which doesn't really help.

As mentioned, nothing quite like Conan really, which is a shame because I'm just about done with it.
Heat is a cowboy game its massive map but laggy for me it must need a state of the art com or the game needs optimising something like that . Green Hell is good there slowly adding to it , Skyrim with the survival mods ,

There are several mods now that let you sort your inventory into your storage chests with one click. Structures+ is the main one, but there are others (the HG or Arkitect ones for example). The tech is optional, you can ignore it (there's even a primitive+ overhaul of the game apparently that's part of the game itself). But if it's not for you, it's not for you. I would welcome a fantasy or medieval survival game as well, but it doesn't look like there is one. At least not of sufficient quality.
Valheim is a good one no first person though unless you find and add the VR support mod .
After almost 11000 hrs in Ark and Conan combined (all in SP) I too would love something similar, and I have searched...but alas, to no avail. I've tried many of the games cited above, most of them held my attention for less than 50hrs or just made me insta-uninstall (7DtD and Empyrion). NMS has become quite playable since its abysmal release (although I struggle with the premise of being an explorer who seems to be the last creature in the universe to visit whatever (still fairly generic) planet I am currently on). So to the OP, for what it's worth I think at the moment (like Sister of Silence noted above) ARK is your best bet if you mod it to suit your wants. The workshop has lots of 'medieval' and 'primitive' mods to remove all/most of the guns, power related tech and sci-fi TEK stuff - the more systemic problem with ARK is that it just doesn't look as good as Conan and even when modded, ARK's building system and options just seem a bit meh. Having said that, how I wish Conan had ARK's ambient danger - you know, that feeling that you are never really safe, even in the noob area - can I walk this close to the water without something lunging out at me, is that just the foliage moving or is there something loitering behind those bushes, yesterday this beach only had dodos on it - where did the 2 raptors come from, I need to get through this gorge before that Allosaur sees me but there's a T-rex in there and I can't just climb around it.....happy days...happy days.....
(ps - I have recently put in an obscene amount of time on the demo for Fountain of Youth, survival in a completely different setting, but it looks quite promising at this stage IMHO)

If you are "done" with Conan why do you search another game like it then? lol

What ever.. I would recommend trying Dark&Light, although it's another abandoned Snail game left to rot on Steam, it still offers quite a bit of fun game play. It has animal taming and magic in open world, both PVP and PVE servers, though I can't recommend PVP because of all the bugs and exploits in it.
Worth a try at least if you get it on sale.

Couldn't handle the heat eh? Its ok.
Conan is simply the best survival game.
ARK is a bad game in pretty much every aspect other than filling the dinosaur fetish niche.
Valheim is probably the one I'd recommend but it sounds like the OP is looking for something that's got more content or is finished, however some EA games are certainly worth the price and have enough content to keep you busy for at least a few dozen hours. Valheim was worthwhile for me but of course your mileage may vary.

Savage Lands is a bit rough around the edges but it's a fantasy survival game with some crafting and building. Haven't played it much lately so I can't really say how it feels/plays now.

This might not suit you but you could take a look at Dragon Quest Builders 1&2. Apparently they 2nd one is quite good. Probably not the near perfect game the reviews claim, but I tried the demo for the second one and it was okay.

If you don't require both third person and/or fantasy then maybe check out Icarus, Subnautica, The Forest, Stranded Deep, Green Hell, and Volcanoids.

I also agree with some of the others about Ark/Atlas - not a fan of either of those games. Something changed a long time ago in Ark, it used to be decent but then it just started going downhill at one point, I remember the graphics were downgraded significantly, and it got really janky (yes, they managed to add more jank) and buggy after that. I just can't get into it anymore. Uninstalled a while ago to free up a *lot* of HDD space.

When trying to find a fantasy game that's similar to CE your realize how few games out there really compare to it. It's almost like D&D and Minecraft got together and had a baby.
