How do you equip thin armor plating?

I am trying to enjoy this game but nothing seems to work right and there is very little information when googling. I read you have to unequip the armor first before applying the thin armor plating. I unequipped my medium armor chest piece and there is no way to apply the thin armor plating. What am I supposed to do to equip this????

You add item improvements via drag and drop (dropping the improvment on the item you want to improve). Maybe there is a compatibility issue with these if that don't work; IDK I only use heavy armor.

To place and armor or weapon mod, the item has to be fully repaired. Then just drag and drop the mod over the item.

So how do you drag and drop with controller? This game is supposed to have full controller support but there is no prompt to make this work that I can see. I have tried selecting the unequipped armor piece and then selecting the thin armor plating. That doesn't work. I have tried pressing X after selecting the armor piece. That just equips it again. I can't believe they made this ♥♥♥♥ this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ difficult.

So the issue was that my armor was slightly damaged, not enough to show on the white bar. I repaired the armor piece. I still wasn't able to find any way to apply the thin armor plating with controller. Dragging it with mouse worked. So much for full controller support. And to top it off I got an increase of 1 lousy armor point.

I only use weight reduction armor kits for myself & armor increase for the thralls when I feel like I have enough mats to sqander. I do not think the armor increase of these kits make any noticable difference. Might be wrong though; just gut feeling here (but then again: Heavy armor user; the difference between what the base armor has and what a kit could add is even bigger there).

On the lightest armour with the least amount of armour points even a few points (5 for the whole set of plates you use to modify the armour) will make a somewhat noticeable a difference, but on the heaviest it barely matters because small increases aren't really noticeable at higher armour values. The only way it would really be worthwhile on heavier armour is if it was changed to be a percentage of the armour value of each piece and not simply a flat increase but then it would be almost useless on anything with a very low armour value.

Anyway, the reason it's not as much use on heavier sets is due to diminishing returns as your armour value goes up. 80 armour gives you about 24% damage reduction but 160 does not give you 48% since it's not a linear progression. It takes roughly 250 armour to get to around 48%. Getting to 72%? About 630-ish and the curve really levels off around here.

You can check your actual damage reduction under the stats screen. Take everything off and look at the value, then add one piece of gear at a time to see the difference each one makes. If you're wearing the lowest tier light suits of armour you will notice a difference even with 1 or 2 more points per plate that you add.

As for using the controller to apply the plates some websites I looked at indicated you can but they were PS-4 instructions however you'd think the controller functions would be essentially the same, right? Of course, they are probably not.

Anyway, the instructions I read said to unequip your armour first and make sure it's fully repaired. Then use the controller to highlight the plates in your inventory then hit your "use" or pick up button, whatever that is. Once you do then move the highlight over the armour and hit the button again. I've never tried playing Conan Exiles with a controller on my PC so I have no idea if that will actually work.

I re-read what you said you did three times to be sure I read it correctly. it sounds like you're choosing the armour first, then the plate mod. The instructions indicate you have to select the armour plate mod first, then the armour. If you can't get it to work let me know and I will break out my controller and try to figure it out.

I'm currently farming gorillas with the help of my thrall so that I can craft heavy armor. I guess the thin armor plating will be useless at that point.

Not sure if you found the answer but I figured it out. You port the armor you want buffed in your shortcut menu then try to add the buff onto the same slot as where your armor is. Like your trying to switch the buff and armor.
