Best food for Thrall Followers

Do any of the new food buffs work on Thralls when they eat it or is it better just to give them gruel?

Depends on what type of thrall it is. If you go in to the thrall inventory it'll show all the relevant food types at the bottom of the screen. If you mouse over the food types it'll show how they influence the chance of the thrall increasing a given stat. Feed the thrall whatever is most appropriate for what you want your thrall to be. Doesn't look like the food types have been updated so for now I'd go with the old choices.

Some of the food types have been updated, as the attributes changed.

I should have specified that this is for a fully leveled (20) Thrall.
Was was wondering if they get the new buffs from the foods (ex -Salted Pork @+15 Strength) or is there any specific foods that heal them better than just using gruel.

I've tested buffing my thralls with elixirs and food, the elixir works fine, but the food buff seems to disappear when the thrall eat something else, I tested with the exotic feast recipe, but when my thrall eate gruel to regen life the food buff got removed.
