How come no farming in CE?
I'm surprised this game doesn't have an in depth farming system.

Barbarians eat meat and farm stone.
The game has plenty of agriculture, just not arable farming. You're more of a hunter-gatherer than a farmer or herdsman. It fits the combat and exploration gameplay better.

Consider getting a cheapo animal pen full of common animals to produce dung for compost boxes. You can then use the compost to grow useful plants, and the grubs that live in it to bait fish traps. It all ties in together.

It's Conan the Barbarian, not Conan the Farmer.

It is disappointing, especially with the limitations of our choices of what we can grow and how we grow it. There could have been a multitude of various crops and livestock that would have added significance to the survival aspect.
Granted, this was never intended to be a Farming Simulator 101 which was often used to keep the possibility of it from ever coming to any fruition in favor of PVP development. (mind you, I'm not against PVP).
As you can tell, you can see where that is now.
It has been brought up before a long time ago and has long since been buried with other things that seem to keep us sidetracked. Unfortunately, it seems to be one of those aspects of this game that sits on the lowest priority, if any.

I'm not looking for a farm simulator. After all, we are playing a video game. In video games, the possibilities are endless. Look at valheim, literally ripped from Conan. They manage to have a farm system albeit not that great. Having an agriculture would be a great idea. Assyrians created agriculture, you would think since the Hyborian age was set after the Assyrian empire, we would have this feature.
Valheim is also a Unity game with a procgen map and deformable terrain, not an Unreal 4 game with a hand crafted map.

CE's agriculture is... sufficient. Yeah, sufficient is a good for it. Does the job, doesn't get in the way. You can a lot with it if you like it or ignore it completely if you don't.

It's not a survival game, it is a RPG with survival elements. You can farm and all it does is save you a trip across the map for more lotus which is useful but it would be nice to have a chicken coop or let birds in the animal pen lay eggs because those are the big bottle neck when it comes to making higher end foods.

One of the mods I've used changed the planting system enough that it at least made planting viable; that is, when you plant a seed, you get one or more seeds back.

You are 100% wrong on this. Take out hunger and thirst and it's a RPG with survival elements. Anytime you have those features in a game, it's a survival game. Especially when it's geared for PVP. So let's call it a survival game with RPG elements. :)

You can already get seeds back. You just need to put some of whatever it is you grew into a dryer. Like in the case of grey lotus, you get 5 flowers from a seed. Put 3 of those into the dryer gets you a seed to grow more. Its not a great return, but you don't usually need a lot. (Unless you are doing sorcery, and you need 10 grey lotus powder.)

Assyrian Empire?
The Assyrian Empire was a collection of united city-states that existed from 900 B.C.E. to 600 B.C.E.
The Hyborian Age dominated Earth from 14,000 to 9500 BC. It is sometimes simply eight thousand years after the Great Cataclysm, or three thousand years after the Fall of Acheron, circa 10,000*, during the Age of Conan. (*12000 years ago)

No offense intended, but there was a significant difference between those times.

Well, Grey lotus was always kinda intended to be a rare thing you had to source by going to specific "dangerous" locations. But I didn't know about the drying part... it's still prolly easier to just blast thru a few areas that you didn't before to get 'em.

I think the Emberlight mod is the one that gives you lots of farming options. Give it a try, it's cool for about a weekend, and then you'll probably be bored of farming. Unfortunately survival is already too easy as it is. They'd need to add a mechanic like feeding all your thralls and animals to avoid starvation or a slave revolt before farming would add anything worthwhile to the game. Then players might raid your base just for food, like real bandits in ancient times. Imagine real world bandits instead carting off hardened bricks like the last weirdo to raid my base did. "Gold coins? Exotic feasts?? Worthless! Gimme the bricks out of your wall!"

The game had a starvation mechanic for thralls already. It got removed. That is what the thrall pot and feed box were originally for, feeding all the thralls and pets at your base.
