Accessing chests/workstations through windows.
Edit 3: This hasn't been a thing for awhile now, I just ate misinformation and/or outdated posts like salsa on Taco Tuesday and spat drivel. Refer to Multigun-senpai's post.

TLDR; Windows are detrimental to your build, which is fine for PvP but not for PvE.

I know there are a few threads on this already but they seem to be either from 2017-2018 and I'm after some fresher info. If I've missed a recent post on this I apologise for the redundancy.

So I'm new to Exiles, picked it up shortly after the most recent free weekend because it remedies a lot of the sour tastes in my mouth Ark: SE left in my 500h of playtime, and I appreciate the Fromsoft-esque combat, even if it's pretty clunky.

Anyway, most of my 35h playtime has been spent in local/solo play just learning the ropes in a chilled environment, building nice abodes, etc. But recently I decided to see how the online play felt, and I stumbled across something that peeved me a little; you can access and loot other player's storage containers and/or workstations through windows, making the act of even thinking to build them a bad idea.

Now this wouldn't be a problem if it was just a PvP thing, because having windows in your main chamber on a PvP server is a bad idea for a number of other reasons, but because it's also possible in PvE servers it just makes your windows all shoot-yourself-in-the-foot buttons.

Playing on a PvE server:
  • Don't know people can loot your stuff through windows? It's getting stolen boi, F in the chat 4 u.
  • Know people can loot your stuff through windows? Don't use windows, forever die internally every time you see that one wall you know would open the gateway to an amazing view while also adding some much appreciated natural lighting to the room.

See the issue here?

Granted, you can still use windows as long as they're not in contact with your main work/storage chamber, but it no doubt gets old living in a cardboard box without air-holes, and a large chunk of PvE's appeal is building aesthetically pleasing bases, not the PvP boxes you have to build in PvP for self-defence.

Now you may of heard of the doorframe + pillar snap technique allegedly found by u/Sscarebbear that supposedly "fixes" the problem, but I tried it earlier and could still loot containers through the gaps which makes me think it's been patched out.

Overall this makes me pretty sad because even if I'm not a base enthusiast, and even if I'm not that great at building in the first place, it's a little disheartening to know windows are detrimental to a build rather than "the cherry on top."

As I've read in other posts, a glass pane or even just a window hatch would fix the problem, but as far as I'm aware they aren't a thing as of yet. I've also heard server settings can help but I'm not entirely sure.

Are the devs aware of how annoying this problem is? Is it on the "watch-list" and going to be addressed in a later patch? Like I said I'm new, so I'm not versed in the patch notes and I couldn't find anything online.

If you managed to trudge through this mudslide of a post thanks for your time.

Edit: I know you can lock crates/chests in PvE if the server setting is enabled, but that isn't the case for workstations apparently, which means bye-bye lvl IV thralls.

Edit 2: Collector's Edition: Just thought I'd add that I haven't actually been stolen from yet, but it's a bit of a worry.

There is also something called an event logs. On PvP servers, it will tell you when you have had your stuff stolen.

I see, I must have outdated information then. God, I feel like a lemon now. Thank you for the clarification though, keep up the great work you do around here for the modding community and the community in general, it's very much appreciated.
