Where to find spiderlings/ Spider eggs?

Hey folks,
Trying to do a spoiler free playthrough on a small server with some friends, or at least as spoiler free as we can manage.
Since the whole pet thing has been released I've been wandering around in the jungle, keeping an eye out for spiderlings and wandering in caves collecting gossamer to see if I'd get an egg sack from there, since I'm not sure which of the two are actually part of the taming process.

However, I haven't had much luck, and some careful googling showed me that in the test-branch of this build there was only a merchant somewhere who sells them. Is that still the case? Or can you actually find them in the wild yourself and if so, which of the two forms; eggsack, or spiderling?

P.S: Please don't reveal the location of said merchant, like I said before I want to play as spoiler free as possible. Being forced to look everything up on a wiki is one of the things that ruined Ark for me.

yes bought mine from a merchant,never saw any in the wild.

you have to find a merchant for getting these pets:
- camel, rocknose, locust, shoebilly (bird), spider

just one thing about the locations of the merchants:
- they are friendly, but they aren't in sepermeru.
- most of them aren't easy to find at all (when you don't google, the chances to find them are pretty low)

you can't get these guys as pets:
- dragons, elephants, mammuths

getting a high level pet:
- feed them with the best food.
- learn the religion of Jhebbal Sag. This helps a lot.
